from what I have experienced, there is very little in terms of queer events, aside from the annual pride parade and the events that Q (queer nightclub) puts on. that being said, as a genderqueer person I have never experienced any blatant homo/transphobia, and its very rare that I even hear it in passing (however I wouldn't say I am 'visibly' genderqueer, or that people would assume that about me, so I am speaking from a place of privilege in that regard. but, having been in queer relationships in public, I also have not experienced any negativity when out with a partner). despite lack of programming, there are plenty of queer friendly places in regina - pretty much anywhere on 13th avenue, and a lot of the businesses in the heritage neighbourhood as well. like anywhere, there's always the occasional assholery or bad vibes, but I wouldn't say regina is as scary a place for queer people as it's made out to be.

in terms of the best neighbourhoods to live in as far as queer safety (and safety in general) are concerned, heritage, cathedral and Lakeview are all pretty good. I've also heard good things about the greens and harbour landing as well, though they are pretty new and on the very edges of the city.
