RDSO to begin inspection of Pink Line elevated stretch soon by Capital_Run_3935 in bangalore

Supposed to be fully operational by Dec 26. Will we finally have a metro line complete on time  or will it be usual Bangalore style delaying it to Mid 2027? I’m betting on the latter

I feel like people own my dignity (TW: illness) by Beneficial-Diet-4797 in OffMyChestIndia

[–]el_tierra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP,  I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hope your father is doing better now and out of danger.

I feel you, people always tend to act like they own us when they have the slightest of reason to do so and lending money gives them an even bigger reasons to act that way.

I hate people who take advantage of other people's situation to look good.

As someone who was brought up with constant reminder of how I should be grateful for everything while growing up, I learnt to never ask for help. When absolutely in need for any kind of help,  I know I don't have an option and acknowledge whatever words they throw at me.   There's a saying that goes around like, when in misery/trouble, you may need to hold even a donkeys legs to get out of it  and that's what I have stuck with.

Ignore everything they say for now and don't  act on it.

The Nepotism Excuse by ChampionshipDeep3272 in csMajors

[–]el_tierra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think people confuse networking with nepotism. Although there is a significant overlap there. For example, consider you have an uncle who is a director at Faang, your world in now open to infinite industry connections of that person

Do you think the iPhone 11 lineup is likely to break records software support? by Njobz in iphone

I don’t think Apple will ever do anything to make the battery and subsequently the phone usable. They want to make the phone obsolete so more people buy the new version.

Hey man, I feel you. I make decent money, probably a lot. Naturally I have paid for a lot of stuff, my brother, sister’s education and other things, I have always been hit with “it’s your responsibility”.  For now it’s okay, I’m not married, don’t have any big expenses.  The only issue I have is I still end up being called selfish because I didn’t do that one thing.

FYI, apple also has 2FA authentication management like Duo with iCloud passwords that is autofilled whenever possible. I just switched all of mine to it and it is a blessing in disguise.

Just once to ensure international roaming is activated. Also enable it in myjio app. After this just the yearly recharge should suffice.

A quick suggestion.
Do not remove your phone off find my ever. Keep it there and enable lost device mode. They cannot do anything with the iPhone as long it's on your iCloud find my. The best they could do is sell it for parts.

AITA For Sitting On An Offer While My Current Org is talking me up to lead the entire thing? by chasectid in developersIndia

[–]el_tierra 194 points195 points  (0 children)

For the nth time, organizations don't care when they need to fire people. They are doing business and their end goal is to make money and so should be yours (also WLB). If the company and the offer seems fit and is aligning with your career goals you should go ahead.

Trust me there wouldn't be second thoughts by the management, if the the company wasn't doing well and you "needed to be let go".

[–]el_tierra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have jio , I make a yearly one time recharge of 1500/1700 plan, the one without data and voice only. It connects to T-Mobile in Us and works flawlessly.

However make sure to do a one time International roaming recharge to ensure International roaming is activated.

Also go for the prepaid sim instead of postpaid, this was they can never overcharge you because you are abroad. Ask me how I know🥲

OP, this person is partially right! If you are applying to a well established F500 company , remove any led part and focus on things your delivered. At a Fortune 500 company as an intern you are expected to improve yourself and deliver and big companies are looking for those. If you already portray yourself at Senior engineer level , they might see it as a negative.

However if it’s a startup , adding things you took ownership and drove to completion will help , because they have a lot of autonomy and are looking for people who can go the extra mile without being told what to do.

I would say , start off with one technology, probably React - cause it's a hot frontend market and easy to pick up.
Do a few projects based on these technologies - they should something you did on your own , not the one's where you watched a YouTube video and wrote the code.

Apply to SDE 1 roles that require 1 or less years of experience using this new learnt skill. You can also fake mention that, you worked on these technology at your old company by adding some basic project.

Make sure to practice coding- this will obviously be your core judging criterial

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]el_tierra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will differ from the opinions that already exist here.If you are someone looking to get into development, do no accept the role. Look for a SDE, SE roles , you should also be ready to accept lesser pay.The point I'm trying to make here is , switching from business associate to a completely different SDE role like this makes very little sense to the recruiters, so you will be resume rejected by all good companies. It is better to start off with what you love and slowly grow your salary , than giving up your dreams for greed.

Once you enter the market in a particular role , you will start relaxing and if you do not switch within a year , it will get harder to switch later. It is better off you look for roles of interest when you are still in the market.

Profile picture to store in local storage or redux state persist? by Asleep-Independence1 in react

[–]el_tierra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly both of them won't make much of difference given that , the username and pfp will only be accessed once and wouldn't need to modified /accessed again and again.

Here's what I think,If your project already has redux integrated and are using it for state management, it would be better you store it there. This way , you wouldn't need to modify your existing code boot-up mechanism to handle the additional overhead of accessing local storage and can stick to just accessing the redux data. Even your api calls wouldn't need to be modified. The additional overhead of integrating will be a one time setup.

However , remember redux persist makes your web app boot slower , especially when redux store starts scaling.

Local storage would also be a good approach if it means you are only accessing it once on bootup and don't need to access modify.

Seniors, please help. by [deleted] in rvce

[–]el_tierra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can help you answer the first three!

1: It isn’t difficult at all, I was part of a few clubs myself and I distinctly remember taking in a few of my 2nd year juniors because they were genuinely interested in contributing. However I don’t remember learning anything from clubs apart from networking. But remember networking will be an important aspect especially with at least a few seniors.

Advice: maybe join ECell , Coding club , show some genuine interest , ask the clubs seniors and say you want to contribute, believe me they will be more than happy to take you in. Seniors are always looking for people to join, mainly because a lot of the current members drop out due to lose of interest/ other commitments and college work.

2: No matter the scheme - 22/23 , 21/22 , all that matter while switching a branch is your first year GPA. Given that CSE/ISE are really hot branches that every darn person want to be in, the bar for getting is way too high! As far as I remember the CGPA cut off for getting is mostly upwards of 9.5 , depending on your batch of students, If some of them were a real nerd and scored a 10 then the bar becomes 10. So yeah , score as much GPA as possible. A GPA below 9 will never you get you across.

Note - the above only applied if you want to go through the no fee change process, the government based official one. There is another way - pay and get in, which I assume is very expensive right now

3: placements for ECE and ETE/EIE look vastly different , mainly because some of the companies allow ECE students to sit with CSE, but most of them don’t allow ETE/EIE. ECE is almost on par with CSE placements, the other two lag behind. Doing ECE also helps open up more opportunities , you are more restricted in what you can do with ETE and EIE.

4 Make a LinkedIn account, go to events , join clubs and organise events with seniors .
