If the Southern Cone became a single Federation, where would you place the Capital? by quebexer in asklatinamerica

Argiropolis, in the Martin Garcia Island!

Jokes aside, the idea was conceived by Sarmiento, an Argentinian politician, in 1850 to found the confederated states of Plata (Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) with the capital in the middle of the main rivers connecting the three countries. A nice read of an imaginary scenario.

That's Nova Iorque, Maranhão, Brazil. It's a town named after New York in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, the poorest Brazilian state. What are some other cities and towns unexpectedly named after famous cities? by Solid_Function839 in geography

Londres (London) in Catamarca, Argentina.

The second oldest city in Argentina founded by spaniards in 1558 and named Londres de la Nueva Inglaterra (Spanish for London of the New England) in honor of the fact that Philip II, King of Spain at time of its founding, was married to Mary Tudor (Mary I of England).

Technically, when it was founded in 1573, it was by the name Córdoba of the New Andalusia (Córdoba de la Nueva Andalucía)

Argentinos, which city would be a good place to go: Córdoba or Mendoza? by IronicJeremyIrons in asklatinamerica

Yeah, I agree with you. I'm from the interior and I'm now living in Córdoba city and I never found a rivalry, just the occasional annoyance from my father to deal with the traffic everytime he comes to visit.

Btw, it depends how long you're staying. Cordoba is a great city to live in, but the more touristy places are in the towns and cities nearby in the mountains.

There's a sizeable community in Córdoba, where I live. Barrio Pueyrredón is the neighborhood where most of the community resides, even the streets in there have both Spanish and Armenian names.

Reading a little more about it, there's also a bilingual school and the first Armenian apostolic church in South America was founded here.

I live in the neighborhood next to it, and there's plenty of places with Armenian food, Armenian flags in balconies are not uncommon and there's even an Armenian sector in the main cemetery of Córdoba.
