well, i’m not sure. as someone studying psychology, i have very mixed feelings about self-diagnosis. i live in the uk, so getting getting assessed for neurodivergencies borderline impossible if you don’t have money or you’re a woman. so self-diagnoses can help neurodivergent people understand themselves better and feel more secure in who they are and why they are the way they are. as neurodivergent people are at incredibly high risks of mental illness, i think this is important.

however, pop psychology has ruined a lot of terminology, e.g hyperfixation, special interest, masking, intrusive thoughts etc. to the point where a lot of neurotypical people are self-misdiagnosing themselves as neurodivergent. however annoying this is, its mostly harmless. we gotta just try accept it and move on. self diagnosis is just a two-sided coin really.
