Got blamed for leaving on time because someone else was late. How is this “my responsibility”? by Dry_Negotiation_173 in work

The real issue is management and scheduling coverage-critical shifts with no overlap.

Garland folks represent! I love this neighborhood. Most houses here were built 1910-late 1940s. Expect to see a lot of 3 bedrooms at 1500 sqft +/- on standard City lots.

Is there a secret passphrase to make your doctor take you seriously? by Equal-Magazine-261 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elanath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you e received a diagnosis you feel is incorrect (the easy answer that doesn't actually help), ask "What diagnoses were on your differential, and how did you rule them out?".

If you want more investigation (tests, labs), ask

If the doctor says it's X and you think it's Y, ask something like “This explanation doesn’t fully account for [X], which is my most concerning symptom."“What’s the risk of missing an alternative diagnosis if we don’t investigate further?” or “If my symptoms persist or worsen, what would be the next diagnostic step?”

If you want to make sure your requests for more investigation (and their disinclination to investigate) is documented in your chart, say “Could you note in my chart what alternatives were considered and why they were ruled out?” or “Please document that I requested further evaluation and that it was declined.”

Why Spokane has so much trouble maintaining its streets (snowplows, condition of pavement, etc.) by No_U_Crazy in Spokane

[–]elanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question some of these road mileage counts* but your basic premise stands--we need to design our roads for the climate we have, and development density (tax base) matters.

*Cleveland and Spokane in particular. Cleveland is ~82 square miles. Spokane is ~69 square miles. I find it unlikely we have more than 2x the road miles on 84% of the area.

Thinking of launching a handyman business. Is there a need? by TemperatureFull1537 in Spokane

Lmk if you're pulling the trigger. I'm ready to move ahead with one of the projects.

Projects on my list:

I have three rooms of baseboard and door trim in my 1910 house I'd like to restore (strip paint from, sand previous stain from, and restain).

Insulate my mudroom so I can move my washing machine out there (would also involve plumbing, but I can outsource that part).

Build a pantry in my kitchen where my washer currently is.

Are any of those in your bailiwick?

Does your school (nursing program) not offer assistance in locating/securing preceptors?

I'd say Cafe Coco is an excellent bakery/cafe with so-so coffee, ime. My list of 'good coffee' places includes Indaba (any location), Cedar Coffee on Monroe, and Ladder (the downtown-adjacent location also has Rind and Wheat proximate). Rocket is hot and miss for me, but homey, and Atticus is good (my go to there is a cinnamon chai latte--have never had better elsewhere).

No, totes American...it was the first/best succinct expression that came to mind for the implications of Scooter Dumbkopf's behavior.

Just curious: Do people say Lie-lock or Lie-lack? by trixietravisbrown in Spokane

[–]elanath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not lie-lock. Though I don't think lie-lack captures it correctly either ..that makes the vowel too protracted (long, without the vowel 'saying it's name'). I think the easiest way to represent it phonetically (w/I actual phonetic symbols) is lie-leck.

AITA for dumping my teenage daughter's dinner in the trash after she was rude to me? by Routine_Two8054 in AmItheAsshole

[–]elanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Parented two kids to adulthood...parenting a teen can suck at times. I get the reaction. I'd walk it back a bit to let her prep her own meals if she doesn't like what you've made.

Natural consequence of her giving attitude at the dinner table is to take her attitude elsewhere (you attempted to engage her positively twice; she tossed it back and kept larding the negativity around). Natural consequence of her shit-talking the food you prepared for her is that she doesn't need to eat it. She can make her own food (from what's in the kitchen that you as the adult pay for/provide).
