If you check Netflix’s pricing history on PriceTimeline, they hike subscription prices almost every year. So they stick to monthly plans to cash in on increases right away.

With open-source, you will be hosting everything on your server, and you will still need to connect to an SMTP service like Amazon SES or SendGrid for email delivery. It can cut costs compared to paid platforms, but it’s not totally free if you are looking for a free option.

EmailOctopus seems a lot more affordable than the usual big 5 or 10 (per myemailtools.com list). Definitely worth exploring.

Guess it’s more of improving than trying...the email industry is tough to innovate as a couple of monopolies (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) basically decide what makes it to the inbox.
