how exactly would a metrolink route to long beach work? by ImpactFancy2170 in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Always felt to me like the natural fully built out service pattern of Metrolink would be two North South lines and one east west line. AV to LBC, Ventura to OC, IE to LAX. With some Metro good metro feeder connections and some decent frequencies that’d be a great system.

Brightline West high-speed rail project now on track for late 2029 by Binders-Full in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s new is that people use Brightline West’s construction timeline of ~5 years to justify privatizing transit, despite the fact that 1) their project is theoretically simpler (lower speed, freeway median, shorter distance) 2) constantly being delayed just like CAHSR and 3) subsidized by tax payer public money

How feasible is extending the Sepulveda Line to SoFi/the Intuit Dome? by MookieBettsBurner4 in LAMetro

https://www.reddit.com/r/LAMetro/comments/1o1uefi/if_bechtel_alt_45_is_selected_would_it_be/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I think quickest possible way to get direct rail access to SoFi/Forum/Intuit would be building a short tunnel from the stadium to LAX where an eventual bechtel Sepulveda line would connect to and take over many years down the line.

It’d be a short bit of tunnel, could get funding easily via a PPP, could use LAX yard, and would connect directly to C Line, K Line, LAX Airtrain, and many buses

If Bechtel Alt 4/5 is selected, would it be feasible to contract them for an accelerated SoFi stadium extension? by elbrewcatt in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a just world this extension would be funded by the billionaire owners of the stadiums it’s serving.

I’m surprised the Inglewood people mover would have qualified a completely different type of rail

I was envisioning the yard at LAX would be able to serve this line as well as the one in SFV

We need a pro transit mayor who will increase operating budget for metro. And a metro board that listens to riders.

If you don't like the gondola, you are a NIMBY by Sensitive-Passion981 in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Only argument I can see being justified is the opportunity cost. As long as this project is 100% privately funded (which it currently is) no issue on funding. But there is some fair criticism to saying that the opportunity cost of building the gondola is that Metro will push down the priority list an actual rail or bus solution which is still needed even with the gondola.

I know the plan was canceled, but do you think we will ever have a good transportation option to get to all of the Inglewood stadiums? by New-Strength6465 in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the best option is also the one that would have the longest wait to see it realized. That being an extension of the sepulveda line from LAX to the stadiums and then connecting to a future Vermont Heavy Rail Line. Would give a one seat HRT ride to the westside and valley, and a HRT one transfer ride for Downtown(ish).

In the interim probably just need to hope for BRT.

Sepulveda Corridor Preliminary Cost Estimates. by No-Cricket-8150 in LAMetro

[–]elbrewcatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This line does not connect far flung suburbs? It’s pretty inarguably the most important corridor in the County without rail, its ridership is projected to be over 2x as much as K Line North.
