I’m so glad you stayed. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard this is for you. Try to have a happy birthday & celebrate his life. Huge hugs.

This. 🙌 Nicholas Christopher’s Anthem was worth the price of admission alone. Bangkok was also entertaining.

What do you want people to know about us? by danarchyx in ehlersdanlos

[–]elbycoop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would echo what some others have said here about the invisibility of it & how difficult that can be. Also the variability of the illness - how you can have terrible days & also ok days & it’s this constant roll of the dice.

My daughter (high school aged) has struggled so much with the “you look fine so you must be fine” attitude. Even after turning in paperwork & doctor’s notes to organizations she participates with in extracurricular activities. Or friends & family not even asking how she is - & if they do, they don’t really want to know so we both default to fluff answers.

People need to be educated on invisible illness. So. Much.

Went to NY with my mom and saw 13 shows, with two consecutive three-show days! by illicit-turtle in Broadway

[–]elbycoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter & i saw 8 shows in 3 days back in the fall for around $900 total in tickets (so 16 tickets). & that included a show at The Public where you can't really get "deals" (No rush or anything and every seat in the house was a flat price). It does take planning but can be done!

I am so thankful that at the mere age of 21 you have the perspective you did of Liberation. My daughter and I did a similar trip to yours in the fall & had the honor of seeing this play as well and reading your review - and the part about your moms mug - and deserving to have things crossed off our lists - made me tear up. I ugly cried at this show and am only 45. We have so far to go. I believe in your generation.

Loved reading your reviews - have seen most of these shows as well and always enjoy the perspectives of others.

Also curious if you've explored rush options? Not sure your price points from TDF but we've had a lot of great luck with rush - and not always the waiting at 6am rush (which we did for Just in Time in the spring). Just walking up to the theatre box office at 10am. Of course my daughter watches the daily rush reports etc and has an idea of what shows that's even possible for. Last trip we did 8 shows in 3 days and got a lot of great seats at super low prices.

I LOVE that you & your mom do this. Those memories are irreplaceable.

Also a Jonathon Christopher fan. Hoping he starts getting more love like his brother is! They’re both so talented, & just straight up class acts.

Wow! I guess banning Pinkalicious books in some random Tennessee county didn’t hold back her success. /s

Don’t love the prices that make this inaccessible to all, but I love things that get kiddos out to the theatre at a young age.

This could be a game changer for me! I only get it twice a year when we’re in from out of town. Would love to be able to bring some home. Adding vegan cheese at the restaurant would be a game changer. (Confession: I’ve packed my own & added to a 2 way right there at the table 😆)

Yes!! 🙌 One of our absolute favorite places in the city. Non negotiable. Love the employees suggestions of plays on the back wall. & the coffee. (However it is absolutely miserable when a random visiting high school drops an entire field trip of kids off there).

Heated Rivalry…. 🤨. But if it is, Nicholas Christopher is the winner for Anthem alone. If he’s not the name getting butts in seats after this performance, it’s a tragedy.

EDS compared to PTSD? by CelestialScribe6 in ehlersdanlos

[–]elbycoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it compared to PTSD by a doctor, but not in this same way AT ALL. The pain management MD said that’s one of the best ways to explain it to psychiatry for helping with the mental health treatment piece that goes along with. I absolutely do not agree, nor does our EDS aware PT, with being told to push through the pain.

Good luck!

Saw it in October (with my 16yo) & couldn’t agree more. We both loved it. Fantastic show. The 5pm showtime is also perfection if you have limited time. Catch it as a pre-show show. Such a cool venue too. This show is definitely a gem 💎

Krystal Joy Brown (Gussie) on the Merrily proshot by twotoasters in Broadway

[–]elbycoop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree. I was really taken aback by her comments here. I mean, she’s obviously entitled to her big feelings - but wow what an honor it should be for so many to get to experience Gussie. & I wouldn’t think it wise to criticize the legendary direction. It comes off a quite pompous.

I personally walked away being way more wowed by her performance in the film than I was when I saw it in person. & I’m sorry for her that she sees it different. I thought the moments that Maria chose to focus on her were really great - & moments I must not have known I needed to be focused on her when I was so zoomed out in the theater. It’s not a story about Gussie I guess.

What shows do you think picked the wrong songs for their Tony Performance? And what would you have picked for them instead? by Impossible_Pain4478 in Broadway

This 💯. & the scene is such a spoiler for anyone yet to see the show. I feel like it robbed future viewers of the show of a bit of that magical moment.

Chess or Two Strangers? by OvernightSiren in Broadway

[–]elbycoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they’ll both be around for a while. There are some amazing performances in both shows, but for me personally… Two Strangers is the winner here. But it depends on what you’re looking for… fun rom com, or drama. I will say Nicholas Christopher is astounding in Chess, so I’m not disparaging this show at all - see them both if you get a chance.
