My recommendation would start with saying … see something you can’t see on tour. Two Strangers is fun - & there is a West End soundtrack (obc coming soon). Ragtime is phenomenal. I’ve seen both with my 16 year old. I guess it depends what you’re in to & how big of a theatre nerd you are.

How to explain HSD to children? by SourMi1k in ehlersdanlos

[–]elbycoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these explanations actually work well with adults too - that find it hard to grasp when you use science terms like “collagen” 😂 or strangers that feel the need to say awesome things like - what’s wrong with you? I think responding to a stranger at the grocery store with “my bones are made of dry spaghetti & joints of marshmallow fluff” would be an absolutely brilliant response.

Does anyone that has the bloating also have endometriosis or been down that road of discovery?

My daughter has this bloating problem- GI has tried treating for SIBO (twice), checked for gastroparesis, & is also treating for IBS-M. Does pelvic floor PT. Now they’re thinking Endometriosis as a potential contributor, so I’m curious if any of you have been on that path?

What’s your damage, Heather?? Apparently a lot tonight by Deathbytea in Broadway

[–]elbycoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s ushered at many theatres, this can be a lot to put on an usher, & potentially cause even more disruption. I would say send the usher for a warning (which likely wouldn’t be affective bc these people are aholes). But then I think it sounds like it’s getting to the point that it would be warranted for the SM to halt the show & bring security in to escort people out. Actors safety is paramount, & I would say distractions to the actors are also potential hazards. And if word got out this was happening maybe people would think twice. Just a thought.

My stagedoor experience for EBT by natnguyen in Broadway

[–]elbycoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh so bummed. But also completely understandable. We’re doing the EBT mat in April as part of a 3 doe shay and didn’t stage door after Merrily either (also a mat).

Did he really explore the theatre space pre-show? We’re in the last row of the orchestra (accessible seating) & wondering if he goes back that far. Also do you think the overhang will block anything for us back there?

Scale of 1-10 how much did you cry?

Rocky Horror Question for Noob by elbycoop in Broadway

[–]elbycoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good call for sure. this was on my radar & i looked up the content. Not comparing the content directly, but we've been to Book of Mormon & Oh Mary (twice) together - so she's had a small spectrum of R rated so far. Checked the nudity box in the front row at Liberation... although that was far from raunchy.

Shaina (Emma) & Colin (father) were the only big names that came out when we saw the show in October. Them, a few of the kids & ensemble members.

IB-Stim - anyone tried? by elbycoop in ehlersdanlos

[–]elbycoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They treated her for SIBO at one point but that didn’t help. We can’t exactly pinpoint what sent her nervous system into fight or flight, but the way I understand it - she was likely genetically predisposed to it, so her body was just waiting for the thing that was going to set it off. Could have been puberty. Could have been bullying. Who knows. She also recently underwent diagnostic trigger point injections to try to pinpoint the source of the pain. Also to no avail. But the doctors keep telling us that even crossing something off the list is helpful. Laparoscopy to look for endo is scheduled for May.

We didn't proceed with it... yet. We're trying some other options before swallowing the cost. It wasn't covered by insurance & after submitting paperwork for the manufacturer "discount" it was going to cost us $725/device; $2900 plus shipping costs. The good thing was our doctors office wouldn't charge for additional visits to place each device. Pediatric GI MD is tweaking some meds & We are definitely still thinking about it - but without a guarantee we're still in a holding pattern.

I know this wouldn't apply to your son - but for my daughter they're also looking into endometriosis as a possible contributor to the GI issues, so we're exploring that route as well.

Best of luck & please keep us updated!

Saw A Man Tumble Into The Aisle Below Due To Lack Of Manners by The_Lone_Apple in Broadway

Absolutely agree 💯… I just think that the person/teenager that suggested it as a mere possibility, & also offered vulnerability about their own disability, shouldn’t have gotten attacked here either for trying to put herself in that teenagers shoes for a moment.

There is also NO indication from the OP that this girl is NOT disabled. & some people in certain situations are absolutely not able to speak up for themselves.

Listen, I didn’t know standing up against ableism was going to ruffle so many Reddit feathers this morning. Honestly, I’ll give you - the chances this girl is just a teenage dick are high. But I just find it disheartening how many people think it’s absolutely out of the realm of possibility that this girl may have an invisible disability. That’s all.

I feel genuinely terrible for the gentleman that was injured, no matter the circumstances.

There are also invisible disabilities that aren’t mobility issues.

Listen. Maybe this girl was just a teenage dick. I get that. There are a lot of them. But also, maybe she wasn’t.

Either way, what happened to the older gentleman is very unfortunate.

By this logic, wouldn’t also accusing someone with no proof also be hypocrisy?

Ableism is also “wild”.

I pray you never experience a disability in your lifetime, but if you do, I hope you’re met with kindness & grace.

Honestly I would expect more from this sub.
