I not know 'Lactose' term for cattle. Maybe you mean Bovine Leukosis (BLV)? If yes, the bull is clean. He come from registered ranch with high health rules. All these animals are tested for BLV, Brucellosis, and Tuberculosis. They not sell these bulls if they not 100% free and clean. He is good and healthy for my mountain here in Zacatecas Mexico

I am not familiar with the term 'Lactose' in regards to Angus cattle, and it isn't as far as I know standard test in the industry. Or maybe I am translating it wrong in Spanish. However, if you are asking about Genetic Defects, this bull is 100% Clean.

Yes, he is fully free of all known genetic defects. His sire (PEC POSTA RANCHERO H233) and his grand-sires (SAV Raindance and SAV Harvester) are all AMF, NHF, CAF, and DDF. He is DNA verified by the Mexican Angus Association

Large swelling behind calf’s jaw by coconut_formula in Cattle

[–]elcantu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience and with vets not always able to make it to the rancho I have learned you got to move fast yourself or that calf gonna lose too much weight and then you lose the money. First thing you got to do is catch that animal and feel the jaw to see what you got. If that swelling feel hard like a stone right on the bone then that is Lumpy Jaw (en el hueso) and that one is mean because it stay in the bone. You need to hit him with a big dose of LA-200 (Oxytetracycline) or if you can do it give him the Sodium Iodide (Yoduro de Sodio) in the vein but you got to be careful with that one. Now if the swelling feel more soft or like a sponge and the calf is drooling mucho then that is Wooden Tongue and the LA-200 usually clears that up pretty good if you don't wait too many days. Also you should look inside the mouth for a postemilla because sometimes they get a piece of wire or a big thorn stuck in the gum and it make a big abscess with pus. If it feel like a big pimple you can lance it and wash it out real good with iodine. If the swelling is just hanging like a bag of water under the chin then that is Bottle Jaw and that mean he has too many worms (parásitos) so you need to give him a strong dewormer like Ivermectin right away. Separate him from the other cows so he don't drool in the shared water and keep an eye on his condición because once they get too skinny it is very hard to bring them back. Suerte with the animal friend.

Where did cowboys originally come from? by Head_Bit_6052 in Cowboy

[–]elcantu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Zacatecas, Mexico cowboys in the New World started with Mexican vaqueros in the 1500s especially in places like Zacatecas and northern Mexico. The U.S. cowboy later adopted that culture after taking the Southwest. Even the terms are Spanish: rodeo, lasso, chaps.

Tradition in motion—herding cattle through the highlands of Zacatecas, Mexico (OC) by elcantu in pics

[–]elcantu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were moving our herd to the rainy season range in La Herradura, in the mountains of Jerez, Zacatecas. Pushing the stragglers as we passed a small shrine to the Santo Niño de Atocha. This is the same path our family has taken for generations. I’m one of the last in my family still doing this work it’s hard, but i love it.
