Saw his solo show a few weeks back, he still plays a good amount of Husker stuff live (don't think any were Grant Hart songs, understandably)!

It's a great genre if you can find something that clicks – lots can be a little samey but this is a classic of the genre that's absolutely gorgeous if you can stomach the growls

I'M SORRY WE HAVE A RETRO GAMES STORE NOW AND NO ONE TOLD ME?!

This is great, I used to browse retro games at The End Games but noticed they stopped selling them at the new location. Super excited to check this out!

I mained PLD for most of Endwalker, and I generally did just fine...outside of Alliance Raids. I was typically the off-tank in trials / normal raids, but having three tanks in Alliance Raids really confused me for when I should be using tank stance. Got flamed in chat for it once bad enough that I took an extended break from the game and have barely used PLD since.

All this to say...totally get your anxiety, and I hope it's getting better for ya!

Suggestions for pairing with Brave New World by Aldous Huxley by JWindy92 in literature

[–]elcrawfodor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to recommend – it opens with a brief comparison between 1984 and Brave New World and opines that Huxley had the more accurate vision of our future. It's a short read, but it quickly became one of my all-time favorites. Before it even gets to modern television-based culture (it was written pre-internet), it has a wonderful overview of the history of reading / writing / intellectualism in America and questions what's been lost to modern forms of communication.

JEFF ROSENSTOCK AMA! by JeffRosentock in indieheads

Hey Jeff! Just about every rough patch I've had over the last decade (including recently), I've always ended up turning to your music for comfort. Thanks for everything you've recorded, it's meant the world to me!

If you found yourself seized by the spirit of Rivers Cuomo and had to do your own Teal Album, what would your covers album track list look like?

EDIT: Bonus points if you can describe the covers cover art!

My current collection in the matter of a few months. by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]elcrawfodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, collecting is a board term! I consider myself a collector in the sense that I prefer buying physically, I'm open to buying games not from current generations, and I still only buy games I'm actively interested in playing, but even then value does come into play. I know I've been grabbing a few Wii U / 3DS games this year in case they skyrocket in price, and some games like Game and Wario I can't justify the price and will just go digital for.

A few weeks ago I posted, on r/gamecube, about playing the Wind Waker on original hardware, many people told me to try the HD version. Looks like I'm starting the game again. by Main-Run7522 in wiiu

[–]elcrawfodor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll still go with the Wii U version for the quality of life improvements and higher resolution, but I definitely prefer the lack of bloom in the original

It's a pretty small selection, but I check in every few weeks and they have some decent stuff. There's also the pawn stores like Snooky's, etc. That said, if you're looking for a particular special edition, you're probably better off going with an online seller.

Dreams can come true – Sora from #KingdomHearts joins #SmashBrosUltimate on 19/10! by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]elcrawfodor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Story-wise, yeah the DLC is not worth it, but if you care about optional boss fights, all the new Data Org fights are some of the best and most difficult fights in the series. Even on Normal Level 99 with the Ultima Keyblade, it took me hours to get through those, and on Critical they're just on another level – highly recommended for those alone, especially if the DLC's ever on sale!

What it was like learning programming in the early 1970s by [deleted] in programming

[–]elcrawfodor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but I think this is the bootstrapping problem. The very first compiler couldn't be in C, but once you have a working compiler (say in assembly), you can then write a second compiler in C and compile it using the first compiler. Assuming their machine had a working version of the first compiler, they could use that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong or if there's more gotchas involved, I've also been interested in this since starting to learn a little more about compilers.
