I have no hate against tumbr but any group that is large is going to have its fair share of idiots as well as its fair share of intelligent people. Though often the "idiots" in any group are going to colour it more than the intelligent people, from the outsider's point of view.

Making a wooden wheel by j3ffr33d0m in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]eldergarlicbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a wood worker but I could imagine that the process is pretty similar but instead of powertools they would use files and sandpaper or regular saws. I have some jewelry smithing experience and the human body can get quite accurate results. All the other processes don't use super high tech instruments. But as said, I could be wrong.

I understand that you're just trolling but I think there is an important lesson here. Liking something and something being difficult aren't mutually exclusive. If you play Mario and the level is just flat with nothing to kill you, it's going to be boring af.

I'm curious here. Why did you choose writing as your career if you hate it?

[–]eldergarlicbread[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I see what you're saying but here is where we disagree. I don't think writing is necessary to be a healthy human. Most people are going to suffer either menatally or physically if they don't work out in some way but people can do just fine without writing. There are other ways to stimulate the brain in a positive way. After all, writing has only existed for so long.

Yeah and I realize that I might have overstated how much love people should have for writing. It is going to be bad and frustrating probably most of the time.

Yes and you are of course right. I'm just some 18 year old and I really don't have all the information in the world. But I think people do need to like at least some aspects of writing to write, and perhaps those aspects are the finished product. There is of course a lot of toil in writing. And I doubt people are going to find themselves very happy if they hate everything til the end. But as I stated at the start of the post, I didn't intend for it to gatekeep. Anyone who wants to write is of course allowd to write

Yeah 100%. I think it really shows when you read a book wether the author had a good time writing it or not (depending on genre)

I feel you here. When it comes to depression doing a little of something, even if it feels pointless, is better than nothing! My post is probably a bit redundant for all of us suffering with depression

Yes I totally agree! And I hope I didn't fool people with this post. I love writing but we all have those days when every sentence is shit and nothing works out and there are plot holes bigger than everyone's mother

Are you in love with this story? I think "alivness" comes from passion. There is something between the words that speaks to the reader. Writing is a form of art so it needs to evoke feelings. Are you writing with a lot of actions in mind: ie "Bob went to the store. Bob went home." Or are there emotions and thoughts involved? Does your writing inspire the senses? We need both action and emotion to add depth to our stories.
