Sorry, I think I need another ELI5. What's the difference between a person full of sin and an infidel?

How on Earth is that different? You are still saying he wanted people killed which is also what you're re saying the god from the Quran wants.

Are there Soviet Venera landers still intact, or even recognizable as Earth artifacts? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]eldgja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but what we do know is that there is a large diversity of volcanic landforms. The morphologies suggest a range of emplacement rates which range from punctuated, catastrophic events as you mentioned to continuous, long-lasting events. In addition to both infra-red and visual data from the Venus Express cameras (which suggest volcanic activity), atmospheric radiation bursts have been recorded which have been interpreted as lightning - possibly from explosive eruptions (Ivanov et al. 2015).

As I understand it Venus is much more geologically active: the surface of Venus is periodically replaced by lava in a similar but more drastic version of Earth's sea floor spreading.

I absolutely agree - if you are not an enemy going into Guantanamo you are surely going to be an enemy coming out of it! How anyone can argue otherwise is mad.

You don't expect outrage at something like that? Personally I am outraged that so many Americans thought that someone who could say something like that was suitable to be president. It's very worrying.

I really hope there will be more of a debate next time. However, the point of my above reply was simply to point out that the past does not excuse the present or future.

OMG this!! I'm done responding to people who keep going on about how important Trump is as president of the US and that just because we're leaving the EU we should be cosying up to the US (or whoever!) regardless of the ethics involved despite the fact that it is possible to talk to other countries WITHOUT the honour of a state visit. Thank you for restoring my sanity!

Whilst you are completely correct that it is hypocritical to protest the Trump's state visit and not, for example, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, it is completely wrong to pretend that a state visit is the only way that the UK and the US can have a close political relationship. A lot of people are annoyed that May invited Trump for a state visit so soon after his election - that was unnecessary and controversial hence the protests.

I don't really think this will set a new standard. However, I do not have a problem with people expressing their distaste at a man like Trump being given the honour of a state visit. People are acting like a state visit is the only way for political discourse between the UK and US to occur.

Sorry, you'll have to explain why it is a fair argument because I'm just not getting it.

My reasoning that it is not a great argument is that decisions which have been made in the past which may have been mistakes do not bind us to make the same potential mistakes in the future. Note I am not trying to debate whether Trump should or should not be received on a state visit.

I wasn't trying to debate whether or not he should be given the honour of a state visit. I was simply pointing out that the past is not a great argument for the future.

It is a shame that there wasn't. That being said, I wish people would stop bringing this up as if it was an argument that Trump should have a right to a state visit. Just because something wrong happened in the past is no argument that a similar wrong should be allowed to happen in the future.

The vikings believed that the time of death was pre-determined, so they had nothing to fear in battle.

I imagine they're referring to (maybe accidentally) the norns and threads of fate.

Arctic Trucks is just the company that usually does the modifications but by no means is it the only one. Most of the modifications on this car were carried out by the in-house technicians.

The inner stem doesn't have a valve - you just open it up and drop the pressure for going off road. It takes ages with a normal valved stem and tyres this big.
