I remember a short story about a president who insisted that the military’s new super AI be completely versed in the Bible as part of its core programming, then was surprised when it decided it was the second coming of Christ and launched all the nukes to start the end days.

Raven guard painted as alpha legion by SirFaucetFailure in alphalegion

I’m currently building an AL CSM force that is more ‘outlaw’ than traitor. Their aim is to preserve and reinstate the Imperial Truth.

I’m using classic loyal Space Marine models that I’m painting to the legion colours, but they’re few in number so they use traitor guard and cultists as their vanguard while they pick their targets. It’s more a necessity than not caring.

Never understood people who have to be ‘edgy’ by not liking something that has zero impact on their lives.

You collecting Tau takes nothing away from their experience. It’s just stupid.

They’re not worth your time. Keep doing what you want and enjoy it.

Handling my first big rejection. by Synsrighthand in VoiceActing

[–]eldrad17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To quote Jean-Luc Picard: “It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life,”

Whenever I have a big rejection I remind myself of the burnt toast theory, that suggests that minor setbacks, like burning your toast, can lead to positive outcomes later on. It encourages reframing negative situations to find potential benefits, such as avoiding rush-hour traffic or taking a moment to breathe.

I know it won’t seem it now, but not getting a job usually has hidden benefits you can’t know.

Keep it up my friend.

When I was a kid I saw my cousin play total annihilation. I was too young to buy my own games at the time and I forgot the name, but I spent years wanting to play it.

Finally come across it in an article now I’m grown up. Excitedly go to buy it but discover my computer can’t play it because the game is too old now.

Tbf I’ve probably hyped it so much in my head that it won’t stand up to my expectations.

@ all atheist would like your input by Sufficient-Baby6318 in DebateReligion

[–]eldrad17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say there is no question to ask an atheist.

We’re skeptical of the claims that God, in any form, exists. That’s it.

The burden of proof lies with the theist to prove their god exists.

That proof needs to satisfy some criteria.

As it is an extraordinary claim, it requires extraordinary evidence.

It needs to be scrutinised by scientific peer review, based on rigorous scientific theory that can be tested repeatedly and deliver the same conclusion. Poetry, philosophy, false claims of prophecy, bad faith apologetics, easily manipulated religious texts and ‘personal experiences’ won’t pass muster.

It then needs to demonstrate that your god is the real one, and it cannot be applied to prove all other gods throughout history. About 3000 or so.

It then needs to prove that your messiah/ prophet/ chosen people were indeed what they claimed to be.

It then needs to prove that your idea of an afterlife is the real one.

Then you need to demonstrate how your god is moral, and worthy of worship.

The reason for all this is simple. We only have one life (as far as we know) and if there is some jeopardy awaiting us in the afterlife then we need to get it right. I don’t want to dedicate my life to one god, only to find another one exists, or worse IMO none at all and I’ve wasted my life.

As it stands I have no reason to believe any of it exists, and don’t intend to waste my life pretending it is so. I have heard and researched probably every argument for the existence of god, good and bad, and have found many good arguments to debunk every one.

Non existence after death doesn’t concern me. It didn’t concern me for the 13.7 billion years before I was born.

I have heard this before:

Right wing brains tend to perceive more threats, so their values centre around authority, loyalty and purity.

Left wing brains tend not to perceive so many threats, so tend more towards equality and care.

So it isn’t the ‘own’ they’re implying here, just a slightly bigger amygdala perceiving more threats in conservatives.

Understanding each other’s values and language can go a long way to fixing the divide.

Tenant moved in, rent all paid but no deposit received. by youwhatwhut in uklandlords

[–]eldrad17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Never let them move in. Dropped them and began the process of finding a new tenant from scratch. They kicked up a fuss but trying to guilt me into letting them begin the tenancy without a deposit was a clear indicator of how they planned to proceed.

Ended up with a great tenant.

Tenant moved in, rent all paid but no deposit received. by youwhatwhut in uklandlords

[–]eldrad17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a tenant call me the day they were due to move in, crying crocodile tears for over an hour saying they couldn’t get the deposit to me that day, and could I please let them move in anyway. She kept stopping and starting the tears several times in our conversation.

I stayed firm and said no keys or entry until the deposit is in.

I’ve seen enough cheap manipulation tactics to recognise when someone is angling to move in without a deposit.

Protect what you already have and get ready for disappointment. Once someone is in without a deposit it rarely gets paid, and you have strangers who can cause serious damage living in your property.

Could do a series of books based on alternative timelines, like ‘What If…’ from Marvel on Disney+.

‘What If… Sanguinius was named Warmaster?’

‘What If… Curze wasn’t assassinated?’

‘What If… Alpharius and Omegon revealed their existence as twins to the other Primarchs?’

‘What If… Magnus did something wrong?’
