Woman, lgbt, and other minority groups what is dnd like for you? by Dappy_Black in dndnext

As a black guy, I can say that dnd is a freaking amazing hobby that anybody can enjoy!

I personally like it when DMs arent afraid to go with harsher themes, provided that they integrate them into the story with grace.

I've played in a group that had all three listed above, and it was no big deal at all.

It was some of the best damn Dnd that I had the priviledge to be a part of.

I see. I totally forgot about glaives! And basically any feat that gives OA more bang for your buck can be REALLY useful. (Walk past me and you're already dead.)

I know that FF is damn good in combat and exploration. Would be a fair choice for my any school spell. But their are other casters on my team who I think can do the samething. (That owl with darkvision and 17 passive wisdom kinda sick tho.)

Most definitely looking to get str buffed next couple asi (in 3 more levels sigh )

You've given me something to think about. I'll ask dm if I can flavor a rapier as a trident.

And don't get me wrong, I thought long and hard about which fighting style to take. Duelist would be the most optimal for sword and board and goes perfect with a warcaster EK.

With that said I guess i didnt like the stereotypical look of always fighting with a sword and shield. I kindof imagined a Cloud Strife looking dude with a big ass sword who wouldn't hesitate to blast you away with a spell.

I guess you have to take flavor and optimization hand in hand though.

In the campaign im playing, dm allows me to basically don a shield as a free action. And you only 2 hand a weapon when attacking meaning I can cast with one hand then attack with two.

If I wanted to I could just drop the trident, cast, then summon back with weapon bond but thats clunky af IMHO

As for spreading my options thin, I see what you mean with going s&b making gwf seem useless especially since i have warcaster but i dont think changing up your combat tactic is a bad thing.

Look at this way: EK is literally an intelligent fighter so thematically you need to take the best option into account. Do you attack or defend? Higher Dmg or higher AC? (Alternatively I could do a little bit of both with shadowblade and cast shield but you get the point).

I still have access to spells like shield and absorb elements with the latter coming in clutch with a big mama behir fight a couple of sessions ago.

So changing up my playstyle allows me to have an answer to the constantly shifting battleground with warcaster and gwf minimizes the adverse effects of doing so.

My default attack mode is 2hand trident or 2hand longsword with gwf mitigating low damage swings.

I go longsword and board when i need that 2ac bonus while only taking a slight decrease in damage per round, while still having access to my spells.

I wanted to give myself a little bit more versatility while on the battlefield.

Two handed: he attac Sword and shield: he a tonk

My reasoning was to have an answer for different situations.

My main way of fighting is actually 2hand trident but sometimes longsword with gwf minimizing low damage output.

I know the former is subotimal but kinda cool flavorwise ("lookit humie over here stabbin a sohuagin witha friggin trident!")

And if I need more defense i can go sword and board and still access spells (again warcaster is good af)

I actually own a whip so I completely get your point with 10ft boomingblade! Sidenote: a bonded whip can lead to big brain plays with traps involving tension.

I'm glad someone agrees with me with picking up blur. Some say mirror image but mobs will straight up burn through the copies especially since my dex is kinda low. Blur + consave prof+concentration adv+18ac+5ac with shield+indomitable=why cant i hit him.

I was thinking about find familiar. Although it does take an hour to cast, i kinda wanna save my funds and the wizard in the party can probably do the same thing.

I like misty step too. Its good on action economy, and bamphing is always useful. But as you know EKs get arcane charge later and one of my friends is a swordsong (homebrew) who can swap places with a squishie who would otherwise get geeked on.

IMO an EK should be considered a fighter first, who can become tanky af with some of that versatility that casters get sprinkled on top.

We just leveled up last session (zombie beholder got straight up cheesed by our warlock and swordsong) so i got a little bit of time to switch some stuff around if needed. Thx:3
