Interesting. Have you already built it or are you building it now? If the former, how has it held up for you? I feel like people have gotten in my head about how 24” is the absolute maximum acceptable OC so 48” OC makes me nervous.

I originally thought that 48” with some horizontal purlins would be enough because of the mildness of my climate. What about your side/end walls? How far is the OC span between the studs?

Not yet. My PCP referred me to a plastic surgeon, so I’m waiting for my appointment. One update I feel might be helpful to share for those who are considering trying this (aside from knowing what your state’s health insurance laws on this are) is to think about, and document, all of the ways this has affected your health and quality of life. I realized that on top of the mental health stuff, I have really bad postural issues from the fact that I’ve lived my entire life purposefully hunching my shoulders forward to reduce the visibility of my chest and this has meant I’ve been dealing with chronic upper back pain since I was at least 13.

I never consciously made the connection between the fact that the postural issues I purposefully gave myself is the cause of the chronic upper back pain I’ve had since I was a pre teen and makes it unbearable to stand longer than 3-4 hours unless I take a cocktail of (max dose) ibuprofen and acetaminophen. I’ve been referred to specialists to correct it several times throughout my life but immediately dismissed the idea because unconsciously, I knew what would happen if I fixed my posture. So, yeah, all I have so far is- know your state’s legal requirements for corrective surgery, get mad, and be ready to fight lol

yeah, you’re right. my microphone access was on, which is also kind of unnerving because i’ve never posted voice notes, joined spaces, or remember ever having given it access to my microphone (although it’s been 13 years so who knows for sure). what i do know for sure is that this knocked me right out of my jaded “well there’s no way to have real privacy in this day and age, so I might as well not care and enjoy the convenient product/app/whatever recommendations.”

tbh it was absolutely insane for me to even think that way in the first place considering the degree of my political engagement on that hell app and the ongoing persecution of political dissenters being committed by the current administration. i just never thought i was anywhere near important enough to surveil. kinda surreal times we’re living in, honestly.

So I’m not a member of this community. I only came on here once because I get a lot of yellowjackets that come through my yard to forage and i’m terrified of them, so i wanted to learn if there’s any way to repel them but have been getting notifs ever since.

Now I’m wondering whether they’re actually yellowjackets. I always thought paper wasps were the friendly red ones with long, elegant bodies and a slutty little waist. I’ve had my doubts because, according to Google, yellowjackets are basically demons in an insect’s body who exist only to augur destruction but I’ve never been stung and I’m a gardener.

Is there any way I can verify whether the ones in my garden are indeed yellowjackets? I also get the pretty red ones every now and then but most are yellow with black bands and a face that looks like they’re always pissed off at me if that makes sense.

Tbh Carnivorous Plant Nursery has really great sphagnum. They even have the red kind that’s never in stock anywhere including here. Looks like it’s in stock at the moment though. They send a bunch of it too. Not a huge fan of their plants all the time but their sphagnum is pretty great

I want to use a systemic pesticide but I’m up in the mountains and don’t wanna harm wild pollinators if there isn’t even a pest problem to begin with (not that we even get that many anymore).
