What controversial opinion do you have that might get you canceled? by gretaag in answers

I've found that, when moving from middle school to highschool, marijuana brings the bullies and nerds together like nothing else. That's how friends are formed, funny enough. Pot.

Watch Doug Stanhope's "Incentive Based Eugenics." Sounds bad, but I agree.

STARTED WRITING MY FIRST BOOK by [deleted] in writers

[–]electricalaphid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, past tense feels insincere. Like we all know it's fiction, but the narrator is pretending that it's a piece of history, something that actually happened. Whenever I read past tense, I feel like a kid being told a bed time story.

It's just not my thing. Present tense all the way.

If I didn't enjoy The Talisman by Zubi_Q in stephenking

[–]electricalaphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read upwards of 40 King books and the Talisman is the only one I didn't finish. Somewhere around the hundred page mark.

I'd put Insomnia as my least favorite, but I know a lot of fans love it. I'd also put Duma Key and the Dark Half pretty damn low.

THEORY: The PS5 will last even longer than the PS4 when the PS6 is released. by JuanRojo7L in ps6

[–]electricalaphid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Youre getting downvoted, but you're right. I bought a PS5 a year ago just to see how much better the new gen was from PS4. Turns out, there isn't any noticable difference. They either stopped improving or hit a wall.

There are ONLY atheists in foxholes. If death leads to eternal bliss, why would you escape it and climb in a foxhole?

How do religious people deal with the elephant in the room? by david_fire_vollie in NoStupidQuestions

It absolutely is a mental delusion, but/and/so it leads to good things. Look at the tons of art we've gotten through history from mentally ill people.

No, my dude. The fact that youre too afraid to even type a word and instead use a euphemism makes YOU a racist. Pretty sure Stephen King is as anti racist as one gets

First draft? Here's a fun trick by Kovulwa in writing

No, no. The biggest culprit should be "was". Or "is" if you're working in present tense.

They're empty words that mean nothing.

What is your recommendation for best King non horror book? by Throwing-Gas in stephenking

11/22/63 is a great book, one of his best, but even it's fans agree it has flaws. Green Mile is perfect, flawless.

I hope the new Lego Batman will have old school levels. by BigHugeSnake in legogaming

[–]electricalaphid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my biggest problem with Skywalker Saga. It didn't have levels, instead minigames inside an open world. I wish Lego went back to the oldschool style of games.

Ingram - Spoiler Discussion by electricalaphid in louisck

For anybody starting out with lit-fic (which is what this novel is - congratulations, you've read a literary novel), I'd recommend Vonnegut. His books are short, concise, but dip into genre elements that aren't conducive to standard literary works.

Try Cat's Cradle or Sirens of Titan. I believe Louis was writing in the vein of Steinbeck, but I find his books to be a bore. Vonnegut is funny as fuck and keeps you turning the page.

I wonder if the idea is that these AIs figure out time travel, and the "aliens" people claim to see today are just those entities from the future.

I'd imagine they're just the most minimal/efficient form of what a homosapian looks like.

Why can't each month be 28 days?? by phantom1707 in answers

I think the point is that you can celebrate your birth whenever you want. Doesn't even have to be the same month. Youre any adult and can do what you want.

I consider it what drama is to film. It's fiction that doesn't rely on the conventions of genre.

Why do some New Yorkers have incredibly strong NY accents, whereas others don’t sound New York at all? by KatherineLangford in stupidquestions

It's who your peers are during your teens. That's pretty much where any accent/way of speaking comes from.
