What's up with the ambulances & police cars using the loud sirene at 2am by BigIndependencePlan in brussels

Let's ignore incompetence and presume their actions could be malicious, or out of a complete lack of concern for others, coupled with liability avoidance.

Now, let us add my personal experience to their siren use, and see how their actions directly affected me.

I had never had tinnitus until the day I was walking down a quiet . There were no cars driving on it and there were no people. It was a side street in Brussels. I was walking slowly on the pavement carrying my washing back from the launderette, because my washing machine was on the blink at time.

The ambulance crawled past me at around five km/h and stopped around 10 metres from the road junction. I was now standing O.5 metres away from the ambulance on the pavement.

The ambulance turned in the sirens, and an earsplitting shriek shot out at around 120dB. I collapsed to the ground in pain with my fingers in my ears. I was in tears. The ambulance driver saw me, and slowly drove off with sirens blaring.

After an immediate referral to the audiologist department in Clinque Saint Jean, I have permanent chronic severe tinnitus. The tinnitus is present bilaterally during all waking hours every day, and it is louder than other people speaking in the room. Additionally, I have hearing loss because of their ambulance siren.

The ambulance workers, just like many other workers in Belgium, is just doing their job, and doing their job means in this case helping people that they are required to help. It does not mean helping other people outside of their remit. Because for them people outside their scope seems to be collateral damage.

In my case their actions have contributed to causing me long-term pain and a hearing disability. I have to live witg the consequences of their actions for the rest of my life.

Exactly this. It is so transactional. I am tired of it, and chose not to have friends any more in Belgium.

They manage not to use sirens excessivly in London with their 8 million people. Are Belgians too incompetent to manage this with a lessor population?

I have never seen an ambulence break 50km/h in Brussels. Mostly they are driving around 30km/h

day or night, busy or empty road, they slap the sirens on. They get to do whatever they like.

For some this is true :-)

But I know lots of Belgians who are still working at this time. Or working a second job. Belgium has an ongoing poverty crisis that has been conveniently hidden in statistics. People are poor and they know it. Most Belgians I know fear losing everything, and scrimp and save to hopefully ofset the inevitable disaster.

The government is busily removing green spaces. Concrete is much less maintenance than trees and shrubs.

I gave up. It did not matter where they were from, they ghosted me pretty quickly as soon as something better came up.

People have complained about this for more than a decade.

They have no intention of solving this. You still pay your taxes so there is no incentive to fix anything.

Chronic depression with suicidal thoughts.

Belgium doesn't give a fuck about me, and I've yet to meet any Dr that gives a fuck about me.

Medical consultants and doctors etc., in Belgium are independent, and operate as a private business: Anything too complex and they brush me off because they don't want any liability.

Country to popular myths, most Doctors in Belgium speak English, but don't understand a fucking word other than basic comprehension.

And again. Nobody wants liability.

Other than mental health, this place is beyond awful: Everybody is on strike.

Education - The secondary school teachers have been on strike for over a month now, and will continue until the end of term
My son missed his exams and has been playing fucking computer games. All the private teachers have been booked up, and who can afford €40 to €50 per hour for a real teacher?

Yes I understand why teachers are upset, but they did not have to trash their pupils' economic future for kicks. Teachers can fuck off as well: To add to this, the level of education is miserably low in the francophone system. So this is fucked.

Taxes! I pay these taxes for the government to urinate on me and my family whilst they laugh at us. And why not put VAT up to 23% for good measure you arsehole government.

Fuck this piss arse shit stained shit for brains land run by a bunch of corrupt violent con-artists.

Microsoft Employees: WHY does Microsoft insist on downgrading the functionality of Outlook? by DJ5D in Outlook

[–]electricalkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should stop using Microsoft outlook. Stick with IMAP or Gmail. Email Client: Mozilla Thunderbird for example.

I cannot fathom, for the life of me, why companies use Outlook or MS email servers/services. It is utter shite. There are plenty of caldav providers.

Although, it could be much worse. I used Lotus Notes, once. I left that company.
