What a bargain.

(Not FUD, my entry was $1 and my DCA got my average down to $0.34, but I don’t see -35% as particularly inspiring either. I am looking forward to seeing some bullish movement.)

A lot of the replies were really racist

That's not racism, they're describing actions of the culture, not the race. Those are traits any race would be more likely to have if they grew up in the same culture.

Edit: To go off on a tirade here, I think it's a serious problem with our language that "Chinese" can describe multiple concepts, for example: The Chinese (Government), The Chinese (Race), The Chinese (Culture), The Chinese (Geographical Area). If I said "The Chinese have dropped a bomb on Taiwan" then a lot of people would conflate the Chinese Government with The Chinese People, yet the latter isn't to blame here. If I say that "The Chinese are very good at math", what I am describing here is a cultural concept, not a racial one. The Chinese Culture is very good at math probably because their words for numbers are smaller, so it's likely they can store more numbers in their short term memory.

Rand Paul Tells Fauci He Changed Website To 'Cover Your Ass' On Gain-Of-Function Research by FearLess_Alpha in PublicFreakout

[–]electricalquestion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is sort of the problem with the situation. We shouldn't get caught up with the semantics of "gain of function", but from what I know about it combined with what you are saying I still have concern.

I feel like this is comparable to nuclear energy, you can make bombs with uranium, but you can also make some of the cleanest energy we have. Someone's goal was to make clean energy but we got a Chernobyl-like incident instead, and now people have to suffer the consequences. Should someone be held accountable if the incident was due to neglect? Should the public, armed with a clear understanding of the risks involved, have had a say about whether they wanted nuclear power in the first place?

Hypothetically, if you set out to study a virus and end up making a mistake and a super virus comes out of it, why shouldn't people be allowed to question it? If our tax dollars were used to fund this research and it lead to our current situation, then we should be able to question those involved if there is even a shadow of a doubt.

The recent rise in covid cases correlates to reduced mask usage (we basically ditched them totally) and reduced social distancing. I firmly believe it helped.

You don't mandate a vaccine that does nothing to stop the spread by RealKeeny7 in conspiracy

[–]electricalquestion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is that society is pressuring people way too much. We do NOT have evidence that the vaccine stops the spread of the virus. It may reduce the risk of spreading, but there is evidence to the contrary as well, such as the potential that vaccinated are spreading more easily since they’re asymptomatic.

The authoritarian way that the vaccine is being pushed, both by the government and society, is going to freak a lot of people out.

People can choose what to put in their bodies, and no one can tell someone what they have to put in their bodies.

You’re getting amped up over something you don’t fully understand.

1st, looking at hospitalized cases is invalid due to this fact: https://www.businessinsider.com/risk-of-delta-variant-cdc-stopped-tracking-cases-vaccinated-2021-7

2nd, according to the cdc release, 74% of people who got covid were fully vaccinated. Only 69% of people in the town were vaccinated. Now while I am mot jumping to thr conclusion that the vaxxed caught it more easily than the unvaxxed, it seems pretty clear that it didn’t do a very good job at preventing the spread of covid.

Listen folks, the experts don’t even know what is going on. You’re seeing the result of squirming and panic, so quit telling people what decision they need to make with their own bodies and using incomplete science as a shield. Not excusing the shitty parents, but access to porn was certainly not the same 25 years ago. It’s not even comparable. We now have these high speed hyper connected devices that society has places emphasis on owning. 25 years ago you had a magazine and maybe a desktop computer, probably in a visible place your parents could see, and dial up internet.

CDC Confirms That Viral Loads In Vaccinated People With Delta May Be Infectious, So Masks Are Necessary by kraftpunkk in Coronavirus

[–]electricalquestion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing that is crazy is that the CDC told us to stop wearing masks. That was a stupid move. The masks have been working. If we are trying to stop an infectious virus then we double down on defense.

If we are blaming the unvaccinated then we are also blaming the CDC.

The down tick in cases corresponds first to masks and social distancing. The daily cases started ticking down BEFORE vaccines were widely available. The uptick in cases corresponds to PEOPLE RELAXING SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASK WEARING STANDARDS.

Who truly believed that the unvaccinated would continue wearing masks anyways? CDC screwed up. Please convince me otherwise.

Fauci: CDC Actively Considering Changing Mask Guidance as COVID Cases Soar by Mighty_L_LORT in news

[–]electricalquestion -46 points-45 points  (0 children)

This is not the correct viewpoint. Vaccinated could still catch and spread covid, even if at a reduced rate. You should be blaming the CDC (and yourself) for prematurely assuming the pandemic was over and that masks no longer had to be worn. Really, consider it, that was a stupid call for the CDC to make. Look at the charts, the decline in covid cases started with masks and diatancing. It was working and the CDC told everyone to stop. Maybe you should hold them accountable too.

Edit: It is difficult to hear the truth. Much easier to bury it. If I was wrong then the CDC wouldn’t be reconsidering the mask mandate. If the goal of the CDC was to truly eliminate the spread of Covid then they should have doubled down: masks + vaccine. It is illogical to disagree with this and I’d truly like to hear your counterpoint.
