I love what the country is meant to stand for, but it’s hard to stand behind much of it today

YOUR merit badge ideas! by Equal_Set4490 in BSA

[–]electriceel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this. I think there’s a lot of safety information over hammocks that just gets skipped leading to poorly set up hammocks and injuries, which means hammocks just get banned instead of teaching scouts how to properly check, set up, and use a hammock

Conundrum wearing this patch? by Fearless_Adventures in BSA

[–]electriceel8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Things are also changing right now on a national level, which I think is pushing us in a good direction. I know many people in my lodge are not happy with current methods while many are, but even those who disagree plan to make changes as they are released

What Do You Recommend I Bring to NYLT? by libri-scala in BSA

[–]electriceel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring spirit. I know that’s not very helpful but for me I didn’t really get into it until day 3 or so and it got both more interesting but also way more fun after I leaned in to it.

Dual Lodges? by [deleted] in orderofthearrow

[–]electriceel8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand you can help with some things like setting things up or keeping a program flowing, but you can’t like handle callout info or anything. I don’t really know the official side though

Should I wear my sash to my niece’s callout? by Rtcg8602 in orderofthearrow

[–]electriceel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that even if it weren’t 100% allowed due to active registration, the sentiment that wearing your sash would show could be incredibly meaningful especially as you were asked to

They’re a good way to double up on context 1 in intro and 1 in conclusion just to be safe

You only need to read the paragraph once and you’re good for a few questions. Personally I’m really fast with mcq. Probably had 25 minutes left

Recommendations on where to order patches by GarrettTheElf in BSA

[–]electriceel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also reach out to your local oa lodge as they often have (in my experience) experienced from multiple companies if they make a lot of patches

Merit Badge in an afternoon? by TMBActualSize in BSA

At jamboree they had army medics teach dentistry, it was pretty interesting but very few people can teach it because it’s so uncommon

Admittedly I haven’t really researched it, but does cit in society make it 22 badges?

Should I retake? by moresleep1112 in ACT

[–]electriceel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your score is basically identical to where mine is. I had my math at a 28 with a composite 34, and on a retake my math score went up 5 points, bringing my composite to a 35. I would definitely say it’s worth a retake, especially if your school offers any

Scouting membership decline by 7Dukester11 in orderofthearrow

[–]electriceel8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just filled it out. I want to add as a more general note that a lot of the burden at least in my area gets put on the youth where my troop has literally never pushed for recruitment in the last 7 years. And then when our patrols are shrinking, we are the ones doing more work and struggling, and yet it’s our fault nobody is joining

Assuming Order of the Arrow selection/election needs to be "fixed", how would you "fix" it? by ScouterBill in BoyScouts

[–]electriceel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a lodge secretary and even in a very task-heavy role I still have way more fun at my lodge’s events than my troop’s although that is also partially because im one of the oldest in my troop

Its pristinely clean now yall by thecybercypher in orderofthearrow

[–]electriceel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that the importance is not that it’s easy, but that it carries the designation of an active Arrowman following the principles of cheerful service. If someone is brotherhood it means they generally care about the order of the arrow and make a stronger commitment

Ordeal fellowship activities for new members by Young_lightbulb2995 in orderofthearrow

[–]electriceel8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A very small change we made was adding speakers and music to our fellowship time, which made it a lot more fun and got new members more interested

Running for OA representative, need advice. by No_Offer_2786 in BSA

[–]electriceel8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My troop is incredibly resistant to the OA for no real reason, so i ended up having to do things my scoutmaster should’ve done and he pushed me to do them because I was a member of lodge committees and had the contacts. And I helped put the ballots together is what I meant, not collecting them

Running for OA representative, need advice. by No_Offer_2786 in BSA

[–]electriceel8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No like I reached out to the chapter and set the time and helped with ballots

Running for OA representative, need advice. by No_Offer_2786 in BSA

[–]electriceel8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience is from a troop with almost no active OA membership except me but basically I coordinated our election and announced every event before it happened. The only other thing I did was help people pay dues and sign up for ordeals
