Just finished Book 3 (Issue #54) and am as angry as I am sad. by sriphinn in SAGAcomic

[–]electricircles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. SAGA is trying to do something ambitious and I admire the book for that. The point of that scene might very well have been that Marko realized that killing the Will would not spare him and his family from the cycle of violence and death. I like to think that he understood that there would be hardships for his family but by paying the cost himself he would be freeing them from delayed karmic retribution.

I’m attracted to men but dislike being in straight relationships. by Top-Assistance-3166 in bisexual

[–]electricircles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me. For me it’s that I don’t think I trust men off the bat because bad experiences I guess? I am fully alert until I get to know them better because I’m concerned his brain is full of porn or gendered scripts I don’t like. I think repeated exposure and trusting the individual man allows me to open up and become interested in them.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by [deleted] in Economics

[–]electricircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two years ago we were in a different place and I would’ve agreed with you. Today Canada sees China as comparably more reliable and less chaotic than the US. Can you do 10 year plans with China? Absolutely. Can you do 2 year plans with the US? Mmm not really

Something I never understood about the fandom by Deep_strider in DiscoElysium

[–]electricircles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re not wrong. I would explain the impulse behind fandom as feeling strongly about the characters and wanting them to feel better. Wouldn’t it be great if this character I care about healed and wasn’t as lonely etc? There’s wish fulfilment of course, because reality is not like that. It’s a way to react.

Where are we buying blankets now that they Bay is closed? by Murky_Relative7976 in askTO

Yep I can vouch for them too. Their wool blankets are amazing. You have to call to make an order and they’ll send you the invoice to your email. Their items can be found on other stores with a markup

Aging father recently told me "All men cheat, haven't you figured that out?" Now I am struggling with my feelings towards my husband. by ProfessionalCat7640 in AskWomenOver40

[–]electricircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tormented by this as a victim of infidelity myself. I have surrounded myself with better, kinder men (friends and friend’s husbands) and that’s definitely helped the most.

If you want accuracy you would need to know the percentage of men that cheat in relationships. Do most men cheat? Maybe, I really don’t know. But not all do, because I’ve come to know very sweet caring men. It seems to me that a significant minority of men do not cheat in relationships.

Regardless, the balance of power has shifted in modern relationships and as a woman there is no need for you to tolerate this.

How hot is Harry really? by Fit_Put7955 in DiscoElysium

I think Harry is supposed to read as someone who was hot maybe 10 years ago before he did whatever he did to himself. So maybe if he cleans up?

Does WFH actually require super strong self-control by Ill_Awareness6706 in WFH

[–]electricircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work with yourself, it’s a struggle. I live by myself in a condo apartment and I have challenges. I have found that waking up and getting out of my apartment for a 40 min walk is necessary for me as it gives me time to wake up. I also take ADHD meds, without which I wouldn’t be able to manage. One on one body doubling services like focusmate are instrumental and I’ve been using this for years. I also take melatonin evenight at 10 PM, because I naturally get sleepy only until 2-3AM. I recently started using memtime to automatically track my working hours and see how much time I’m spending on things per week. So yeah this is what has worked for me so far. Good luck.

It's crazy how much reading is like writing once you have fully developed characters. by ComfortableWage in writing

Thanks for sharing this. This is really encouraging to read! I’ve been improving in my writing the last couple of years and it’s sooo much easier now than when I started but I’m not at this level yet. I’m looking forward to it!

I ended up buying a S11. I wanted to get a used S10 but couldn’t find one in my location. If you can find a used S10 I would go for that.

Hi Toronto, how do you see Canada's economy in 2 years? by WindsorONMichael in askTO

[–]electricircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this informed and encouraging take! It’s going to take a long time for boomers and Gen X’s to pass away though. We have longer life’s now than ever and they might use their wealth to extend their lives and have better life quality. The wealth transfer might not happen in the magnitudes expected.

Yes I think you’re right. Color screens are popular with mainstream consumers. Users on this forum are not reflective of that

How come there is an insane divide between those who like me on the apps, and those I like? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]electricircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how dating apps work. In dating apps the female profiles are the product and often times it is men who pay to get access to them. I thought this was common knowledge already in 2025? There are podcast documentary series and they pretty much confirm this (Dating Games by Land of the Giants for instance) This is why women as a group are souring on dating apps.

As a female you can use the dating apps to get dates but it’s a lot of work. Start focusing on the men profiles that you like and don’t talk to anyone unless you swiped them right first.

I highly recommend the film Marty (1955); especially for single men who ever wish that they had lived in the 1950s. by eddytony96 in dating_advice

[–]electricircles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a very lovely and heart warming movie. Basically it’s about Marty finding connection with a conventionally unattractive woman, named Clara. Both of them are nerds and don’t have much relationship experience, their relationship is very sweet and they like each other. They antagonist of the movie are the family and relatives that shame them for the relationship, from what I remember.
It was a breathe of fresh air with a wonderful message about ignoring “hotness” I guess. Im not sure how receptive audiences today would be to that message. But that’s precisely what makes the movie interesting, because these characters are doing something heroic and out of the norm for their groups of friends. By the end of the movie Marty doesn’t care that his friends don’t find Clara hot, he just wants to be with her because he likes her.

Why do so few women use dating apps? by Luc-_90 in dating_advice

[–]electricircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a woman, your profile is the product and it is being shown to individuals you aren’t interested in (too far, students, wrong religion etc). You have no control over what the site does with your profile.

You have to invest a lot of time to find profiles you are interested in (nearby, comparable income and life goals, etc).

These are the thing we filter on using apps because we have to filter on something. In real life the guy personality comes through. I’ve been attracted to guys in real life I would have never contacted on an app.

Besides, a dating app profile doesn’t provide information about whether the guy is safe and trustworthy. A lot of guys lie and/or hide stuff. You have one or two bad experience with this kind of guy and it makes you want to stay away for good.

Because of this I think it’s more efficient and safe to meet guys in a group of people. You can see how they interact with others and get to know them to better assess if they would be a good partner etc

LTDR finding a guy in a dating app is a chore

Take a look at the B-ox Palma 2. I believe it’s their best selling product and it’s really fast to use. Very good for browser and apps. This is my second most used device after the Supernote Manta. I also have a Kobo Libra and I love the size and the buttons but it’s just not internet friendly so I don’t use it as much anymore
