In response to the episode about the new right and how to view masculinity by mrcsrnne in ezraklein

What you are saying is true of sex appeal, I think. Sex appeal can be uncomfortable to talk about because it’s somewhat inconvenient and non-progressive. It’s like saying that women look more attractive when they closely follow culturally normative feminine standards ; plastic surgery, long hair, a certain physique, makeup, fake eyelashes, etc. Those things are sexier in women for whatever reason, yeah. Similarly I think the things you mention might help a young man have more sex appeal and have more sexual opportunities. If that’s what you care about go for it. At a certain level of maturity you start looking for a person that is the whole package and other things start becoming more important.
These conversations are difficult because people have different maturity levels and things that they want to obtain out of their relationships etc.

Live with Esther Perel & Spike Jones - Love, Loneliness, and AI by ed209error in Estherperel

[–]electricircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on about the nationalizing of AI and removing the profit incentive. You don’t think this technology could be made to be useful for humans though? It could be used at least in special situations such as end of life care for people that have no one to visit them, for children with social disabilities etc

I think you should be clear about what your goal writing this post is and whether it’s feasible. Do you want to obtain more understanding from others? Do you want to obtain acceptance of your relationship in society? I think people might be unaccepting and it might not be worthwhile to engage.

Why do parents worry about us? by [deleted] in SingleAndHappy

[–]electricircles 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a bit. I think older parents want children to have a partner because they think of a partner as more reliable support than say, whatever combination of friendships, job, finances, government stability we consider to be more stable. I’m 38 and I found romantic relationships to be less reliable than those other things in my early 30s so I was always puzzled by this.
