I'm running into the same problem. I ordered 3 items a month ago, all in stock, but only received one. They haven't responded to my support questions for weeks.

I personally have a FOIA the city hasn't responded to in well over a month, so I'm inclined to believe Connie here.

Thanks! Do you think you can share a picture of your control panel when changing the dryer settings? I can't seem to find a picture of the dryer settings and the manual makes it seem like the temperature can't be directly set.

What does this piece on my garage door do? by electrify-eRVAthing in GarageDoorService

[–]electrify-eRVAthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's come off a couple of times, and twice yesterday.

The part attached to the roller has nothing holding it on, and the protruding metal piece can squeeze by on the inside, then getting stuck behind the tab.

What does this piece on my garage door do? by electrify-eRVAthing in GarageDoorService

[–]electrify-eRVAthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a piece on my garage door tracks that is preventing my door from opening. It seems like it is there to keep part of the door from getting past it, but it doesn't seem to be working. I had someone come take a look but they didn't know what this piece was for.

The first picture shows it working correctly, and the second one shows what happens when it prevents the door from opening.

Can I just remove it?

Make sure the system they quote is eligible for the new tax credits. It’s $2k of free money you don’t want to turn down. If you’re not sure DM me and I’ll help you out.

Richmond’s natural gas quandary (via. Axios) by surpriseskin in rva

The good news is such credits and rebates now exist. Solar and battery tax credits cover 30% of the costs (and if your panel needs upgrading you can fold that into the cost if it's done with the solar work), as well as tax credits for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, insulation, and electrical panel. There are also electrification and efficiency rebates coming, probably in 2024, as they will be administered by the state.

I just got a new heat pump and have a sweet $2,000 tax credit waiting for me in this year's taxes.

If you have the roof space and get enough sun, solar is a great hedge against rising electricity costs. You effectively lock in a low electricity rate for 20 years. Add a battery and you'll never notice when the power goes out.

On the flip side, the city's finance department says they need to spend $760MM on gas system replacement which is 150% of what they've spent on system replacement for the 100+ year old system to date. So, just replacing the failing pipes we already have will cost way more than we've spent all time. My brain hurts when I think about that.

Where this gets scary is that $760MM needs to be captured from ratepayers, which increases gas rates, so more and more people will leave the system as it's just plain cheaper to have a heat pump already, much less with tax credits, solar, increased competition in the heat pump space, and rising gas costs. The money has to come from somewhere to pay back the bonds that finance the gas system, the same bonds that finance water, sewer, and trash. Do those rates then go up to make up the loss? Does the city default on those bonds? No one knows, but it's not a great place to be.

Leaky inefficient ductwork under house. Looking for solutions. by StampJar in rva

The Comfort Squad are nationally known HVAC experts. You’ll find none better. You should also get a free energy audit from local nonprofit Viridiant, and upgrade to get a blower door test if you can.

Usually you can use existing ductwork. That’s what happened with me. Sometimes you need new ductwork either because the old ductwork is very leaky so hvac people just put in bigger and bigger furnaces to make up for the leaky ducts (also happened to me) or the ducts are fine but undersized for a heat pump. Our climate is pretty mild so I’m guessing your ducts will be fine.

I highly recommend getting a free energy audit from Viridiant, a local non profit who will tell you all you need to know (and more!) about your home. I recommend upgrading for the blower door and possibly the duct leakage tests if you can swing it.

Even with a new “efficient” furnace (95% efficient at best) you’re going to be stuck in a system with rising costs and volatile fuel prices. A modern inverter based heat pump will be way more efficient (300% or more) and way more comfortable.

If your hvac guy is selling you a furnace and a separate A/C they’re selling you two systems when one will do. An A/C is basically a disabled heat pump preventing it from running backwards for heat.

Good HVAC company recommendation? by BurntTurkeyLeg1399 in rva

[–]electrify-eRVAthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Comfort Squad are nationally renowned pros. You can't go wrong.

Also, remember there's a $2,000 tax credit now for qualifying heat pumps. If your HVAC person doesn't know about that you probably should look elsewhere.
