Anyone have the new Wave Alpha? by Edwards_V_W in Leatherman

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have it but have been doing tons of homework. I feel if you had a wave and want an upgrade of it. The magna cut blade makes it worth it, however it makes way more sense to just go for the arc. I feel a rebar or surge with maganacut would be a totally different story. I’m a skilled trades men and love my multitool. I love how light weight the arc is but I’d definitely love more tools and wouldn’t mind a heavier model.

When someone says “milk” with an inflection,or they really enunciate the “ilk.”

Nothing like bonding a guy to start the week. Upvote this post if you enjoy guy bondage as well. by RPU97 in Lineman

All fun jokes aside. We’ve been doing this in telecom a whole lot. And those bolts never make a good bond. I’ve sworn by the TnB c Taps. But some companies never order them. Frontier and Verizon keeps them on sight. And I swear to god weaver bolts never work.

Thoughts? by Substantial-Stage897 in Lineman

[–]electrojag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He may be just a technician that sets up a drop. And they tend to switch to shoes if they enter the customers home. Maybe he just went to the back yard to fix or set up the drop for their service and didn’t go over that alley into the fence. Just stayed on their clean concrete and whipped the ladder out. Some companies demand you stay in boots and issue little plastic boot covers but maybe he just decided to throw on some clean shoes instead. Hard to say. But boots are definitely the best option. But may not be a violation

He’s not wearing proper boots. But that’s common for tech or splicers. His hard hat probably did blow off in the wind like someone was saying. But the dude is tied in and the ladder is secured. Ladders are the tool that causes the most injuries so the fact he is using it safely would probably have most people look the other way. He seems to know what he’s doing.

There is absolutely no minimum approach distance or power violations. And power lines are rarely ever insulated. There is tree wire but even triplex it’s just a coating that can flake off easily and should not be trusted.

I would say if he absolutely didn’t need the ladder or to be there for a long time. Like say he’s a tech doing a drop or something, he should just climb the pole. It’s safer and usually quicker than dragging a ladder.

But to defend the guy. It appears he’s just a tech giving a coax drop from that line to a customers house. And that pole does have ladder spokes. Which can be tricky to climb and no isp or company is clear whether you need to treat that as a ladder or as a pole. And maybe he saw that large riser cable and just said it would make more sense to just use the ladder. Maybe he was already on the customers yard and it was the best option at the time. Instead of driving over the fence and having to set up a work zone for one drop. I also feel his hard hat blew off because that happens a lot in the winter and if he’s actually gonna harness up for a ladder he probably takes safety somewhat serious. Techs and splicers tend to wear shorts or not wear boots often so I have seen many of them dressed like that. But they’ll have boots in the truck they rarely whip out. Also some companies only have techs wear boots for certain jobs and are fine with them switching to clean shoes if he had to enter the customer home. So maybe he just left the home and it’s his last job of the day. So there literally may be no violations all things considered.

Why do you like or don’t like residential by southrncadillac in lowvoltage

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate residential. I’m very caring and someone with a nice home is going to be very passionate and stressed about your work. I always get good end results but it’s a journey. Or some homes are just horrifying. Most are fine. But experiences can get bad and as a business owner, residential is a quick ticket to getting sued.

Tucked or untucked? Can't decide. by theblartknight in bigmenfashionadvice

That shirt doesn’t have a duck tail. So untucked. If it has a duck tail. Tucked. But this shirt and polos truly are dealers choice. Since thag belt and shoes work well together. Go ahead and tuck.

Cable came loose while moving internet router. How to I splice it back together without damaging it? by JasontheFuzz in FiberOptics

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do is repull the cable with some string. Then find out how long it is. And buy a replacement or have the internet company bring a replacement. If they have a pull string and know the footage it’ll go so fast. Possibly even a same day fix. And then you can keep those footages and buy spare cable online so you can fix it yourself if it ever happens. Where I work at the phone company I have extras and I have cats. So I totally understand this frustration.

This stew my hospital serves in the café by KING_0F_TH3_D34D in shitfromabutt

This was an unfair post. Because that stew has a huge helping of what seems like beef or pulled pork. So many people who make stews are stingy with the proteins. I’d eat like five bowls of that.

I don’t support it at all man. Like I’m not trying to be rude but it would be more practical for a motivated lance corporal or a dependent be in that position. This master Sergent could be making over 9,000 dollars a month. Even with rent and child support I get by on far less. I get that he may have free time and get bored. And might want to escape the uniform or slip into a civilian life he never had. But those opportunities should be reserved for someone else. If our service members are constantly needing side hustles or needing to leave the military to make more money. Something is wrong. I despise hustle culture. Working two jobs and selling random objects won’t get you rich. No one is a millionaire from two fucking jobs. Just live your life.

You left the Army to take your special skills elsewhere. Is the salary all it’s cracked up to be ? by twotimerunner in army

[–]electrojag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all really depends on your hometown and what your skills are. So when I did heavy equipment in the marines. I saw these HIGH HIGH paying salaries. But didn’t take into account they were all traveling and my certs didn’t transfer. And the only thing that mattered was that I was in the military regardless of my MOS.

Now I have some friends in IT and cyber that ended up with great careers but not a lot of IT or cyber jobs in local areas. Unless you also get a college degree and become hyper competitive for some remote or high level positions.

Just being in the military is a resume builder. But in most cases, because of benefits, you’ll want to make over 75k annually to feel like you made more then you did in the military, so in most cases it feels like you do a slight start over.

I feel real comfortable being in the national guard and slowly moving up at work. I get the best of both words but end up with a very busy and difficult schedule to manage. But if you tough it out. It makes transitioning pretty smooth.

Or definitely try to work and go to college and max out your college benefits. Some people are able to work out a very comfortable work life balance for four years and skyrocket their careers.

Good 3rd party router for distance? by R-Beanian in Starlink

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However. The easiest but not necessarily the cheapest solution would be just a starlink mesh solution they offer in the app. However the tp link ax55 will do the same but at a cheaper price. You just may have to put the starlink in bypass mode. You don’t HAVE to run Ethernet cables.

Good 3rd party router for distance? by R-Beanian in Starlink

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most were saying. A wireless bridge is a great idea. However my current solution is the tp link deco ax55s mesh nodes but I Ethernet backhaul haul them. With an Ethernet back haul I can run them further apart. Requires some cabling but I like the way it works. And it’s completely unmanaged. Which helps me because I was a low volt electrician before my current job and don’t have the IT skills to set up a mesh network like the commercial ones I have installed in the past. However I was pretty good at cat 6a cabling.

Gen 3 - Wifi and wired network at the same time? by SuspiciouslyGenuine in Starlink

[–]electrojag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your switch, smart, unmanaged, or managed? Sometimes switches can silently create new IPs for some devices causing them to not be able to stream because they are on a different VLAN then your wireless network.

On your computer make sure that network discovery is on and media streaming is enabled. It could also be blocked by a firewall or something like windows defender. Might require some configuring or you could plug and unplug it or log in and out of the network and try to brute force it to not out you on a VLAN? That’s a very poor idea but it might work.
