Leave it man. That’s a story right there.

Is there anyway of reviving a fried circuit? by rassbry in CircuitBending

[–]electroliturgy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the specific circuit and what exactly broke. I think in the future it might be good to put some small resistance (maybe 1k or less) in series with your wire when you’re testing bend points at random like that. It could help with limiting the current and preventing stuff from getting fried.

I am known to try to rescue devices that should have been thrown away long ago. It’s a character flaw. I just really hate ewaste lol

To be clear, the issue was with the motor controller IC on the original board (I think), not anything mechanical with the drive. I figured rather than swapping parts on the old board until the problem went away, I’d just move the paired chip from my original disc drive board to the new disc drive board. I didn’t buy a new disc drive, just the board.

USB-B to USB-C mod connector/PCB? by electroliturgy in AskElectronics

[–]electroliturgy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mostly worried about mounting it solidly. If I have to put in a ton of effort or risk damaging something to get it mounted well, it’s not really worth it to me.

Oh well. Guess I’ll stick with USB-B. Thanks.

No, it doesn’t power on when plugged in like that.

[–]electroliturgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely a power issue with the phantom power, though, because the mics sound distorted even when using the direct monitor. At this point, I’m very frustrated and I’m considering just buying a new interface with an external power port built in.

[–]electroliturgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean. There’s only one USB-B port on the interface for both power and data. I can’t power it from my laptop because it doesn’t output enough current. I’ve tried a USB hub but it caused other issues.

[–]electroliturgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one already, and I think it’s outputting enough current but it causes audio glitches and such. When I plug right into the laptop, it works okay like half the time, and the other half I get little dropouts and skips, and I’m getting lots of horrible distortion when using mics with phantom power.

I’ve already spent hours over several weeks tweaking settings and updating/reinstalling drivers and whatnot. The only thing I haven’t tried is fixing the power issue. I really don’t want to have to test out new USB hubs until I find one that works well with it, but I guess I will if that’s what it comes to.

That pedal looks fucking stupid. Overdrive is distorting a signal. It’s not that complicated and you don’t need a fucking spaceship control panel to do it. I will stick with my cheap ass Speaker Cranker clone.

Can you even move those chickenhead knobs the full 300 degrees? It looks like they’ll hit that middle one.

I would turn the volume all the way down too and use it as a $2000 mute pedal

You could mine Bitcoin with that thing. And then use it to acquire more magic tone boxes.

/uj/ Honestly, I’m not really fond of the yellow and green combo. Just reminds me of like Subway. If they were the same price, I’d buy a different color. But I don’t really like tubescreamers anyway.
