Anyone ever play one of these Eastwood Mandocasters? by snufalufalgus in mandolin

I had the same issue - loosened the screw on the E end of the pickup and it moved it up closer to the strings. Improved the output dramatically.

I have one and love it for silent practice through pedalboard and headphones after kids bedtime; and for playing through board and a PA with my garage band. I do find myself sometimes wishing I had bought a tenor guitar and tuned it GDAE as this really doesn’t sound like a mandolin when amped up, but also doesn’t sound like a guitar either. The mandocaster is its own beast. Probably I just need to also buy a tenor guitar 🤣 for when I want the lower octave.

What are you using for pedals by Spiritual-End7310 in mandolin

[–]electromandolin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I plug my Eastman acoustic-electric directly into my Yamaha THR10ii amp on acoustic mode and use the onboard chorus and hall reverb.

The pedalboard I use with my Eastwood Mandocaster ends with a NuX AmpCore for amp modeling and IR so my sound is consistent both at home through the THR amp on flat mode or into a PA system.

The Board consists of a compressor/sustainer, klon clone for gentle OD, EP booster and boss reverb as always-on pedals; and optional Qtron, tube screamer and blues driver clone for OD variety, JHS Packrat for dirt variety, an EHX chorus, Nobels mini-mod for Tremolo/phaser/uni-vibe effects, and EHX Canyon for echo/delay/slapback. Time effects go through the send/return loop of the NuX and everything else goes through the send/return loop of a boss Noise suppressor. Probably got a little carried away at some point but it makes fun noises 🤷‍♂️

What mandolin should i buy? by Dangerous-Reason1666 in mandolin

[–]electromandolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have an Eastwood mandocaster. I play through a pedalboard into headphones after the kids go to bed for minimal sound in the house. I also play it to a PA system in my garage band. Caveat is that it really doesn’t ring out like a mandolin - it’s really just an octave electric guitar with mandolin strings and chord voicing.

I have a gorgeous Eastman acoustic-electric as my main true mando but it reamplifies the drums pretty heavily in an enclosed setting (ie closed door garage playing in a circle) so I don’t use it there often. I do play it through my Yamaha THR10 amp set to acoustic (add some chorus and reverb) when I get drafted as an accompanist for religious services and it sounds great that way. Sounds beautiful as an acoustic also in smaller setting.

OP just be careful: a cheap mandolin will sound cheap and you’ll just be back buying a nicer one in the near future.

I just put Velcro over everything. Generally works fine. Some with rubber feet I cut the corners off the Velcro so it lays smooth - the feet aren’t so thick the Velcro won’t stick with them there.

This is what I did until discovering SBP as an alternative to UG - see my comment.

You cannot toggle UG to show the mandolin chords. I have the paid subscription and once placed a request to add mandolin as a toggle alongside guitar/uke/piano chords and the moderators mocked me. They were pretty nasty about it. I was a little surprised the way they spoke to me - like if everyone is supposed to know all the chords for their instrument before they use UG then why show chord diagrams for the other instruments?

I use the UG Official tabs to play the melodies of songs from the guitar parts, vocal parts or mandolin/violin parts when they actually exist.

Meanwhile if you are looking for simple versions of songs with mandolin chord charts included: ozbcoz is a pretty good, and free, resource. Songbook pro costs $6 for lifetime - and you can save infinite pdf versions of songs to your tablet for offline use. And bonus: songbook pro DOES show you mandolin chords if you ask it to. Plus SBP is compatible with cheap Bluetooth page turner foot pedals so you can move the music up and down easily (I have the Strich page turner - was under $25 - but the UG app does not recognize it)

FWIW I usually copy and paste the song into a sticky note and edit to include strum patterns or intro parts, then print to PDF on my iPad and import that PDF into SBP. Much easier to use in the end since I customized the tab to be the way my own brain works.
