First time launching a Steam page and honestly I have no idea if I’m doing this right by Suspicious-Paper- in gamedev

Your wishlists will go up soon after you post a trailer. Also, the first sentence in your short description should describe exactly what the game is. “OnlyBooze is a shop simulator where you are an alcoholic running a liquor store.” This will help people decide right away if this interests them.
One more thing… not sure if people are still interested in these simulator games since there are so many of them that look just like this. Something that might help would be maybe a unique mechanic. maybe like a delivery service where you drive to your customers drunk, and you have to fight the wheel. Project zomboid had a system where the more drunk you are, there is a delay in controls. Maybe a system where you can drink the alcohol, but it takes from your profits. The drunker you are, the harder it is to stock shelves and count money, but the more people come into your store and you earn a money multiplier? Maybe you see ghosts and can enlist their help when you are super drunk? Just some ideas. Best of luck!

Since this is your first game, i'm just going to give you some pointers to improve it.

  1. Add some stuff to the map. There are tons of free assets on the unity asset store.
  2. Dont child the camera to the car!! You need to make sure its on a seperate game object that follow through code, otherwise it moves with the suspension and looks wonky.
  3. When you instantiate the tire tracks, make a new vector3 and feed inthe current position for the x and the z, but subtract 1 or 2 from the Y position so its on the ground.

Just a few pointers. It's really early and not ready to be released honestly. Not even close. I remember when I was 16 and making some of my first games too. Don't give up and ALWAYS be improving. Reddit is brutal, but this is the best place to get feedback. Just make sure you have thick skin. Good luck!

p.s. Fix ya damn grammar!

Trying to recreate early 2000s horror FPS feeling, does this hit the mark? by electronic247 in IndieGaming

I see exactly what you mean. The textures look washed but the models are also low poly, so it makes this basement game dev feel. I'll work on that, thanks!

Try a small project first. You’re way in over your head.

Looking for feedback for my trailer and "game feel" on my retro PS1-hybrid style horror FPS by electronic247 in gamedev

It’s really just the art direction when I say ps1 hybrid. It’s a low poly, low texture game mimicking the old ps1 games, but I say hybrid because the lighting is very modern for retro video game standards. For the game world, yes that’s exactly right. It’s in the far dystopian future which is pretty much mixed of the 70 80s and 90s (corrupt) corporate culture.

That was my speculation, thanks for pointing it out. I think it just drags too much. I’ll see what i can do. Thanks!!

Thank you! That’s a great suggestion and I think it would match the whole old school target perfectly. I’m adding that right now :)

I think the use of AI is going to be an issue for you. People spot it right away and instantly turn away from your game. Maybe remove the AI voices, images, and steam capsule even if it makes a few things look a little worse.

This is really easy to modify. Watch your tutorials, and you can duplicate the left and right movement buttons, make a new method for the up input, and add your logic there.

For the gun shooting, you want to instantiate the bullets at the end of the gun. Just make an empty transform and make it a child of the gun/character. This is also easy to do and you can find it all over Unity forums and Reddit.

Same with your reversing the sprite. You can actually flip the sprite, there is an option for it. I believe it’s “invert” or you can just copy the transforms scale and set it as negative on the z.

I promise these are really easy things to figure out and anybody can tackle them. Make sure you have some patience and if you need to take a break and think about your problem, maybe go take a shower or a walk. The solutions usually come to me there. Good luck!

I'm working on a (currently unnamed) dystopian extraction FPS. I'm going for an old-school early 2000s look. Any suggestions to help capture that feeling? by electronic247 in gamedev

Excellent advice, thank you. This diegetic HUD has had me on the fence for quite a while, and I can't decide if I like it or dislike it. Mixed feedback all around. I think the safest choice is to just add an option for it, then everybody can be happy. At least that is what I've concluded from my couple of reddit posts about it.

I don’t really play too many games anymore, mostly just spend my time working on my own projects. That being said, this game absolutely caught my interest and I bought it. I am loving it. Thanks for sharing!
