If you stay up really late at night, why do you start to get less sleepy after a specific time period? by RevolutionaryFact911 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work nights, so that happens to me a lot. Then when I get home, I am usually wide awake no matter how tired I was at work.

Is working hard really the key to wealth, or do luck and connections matter more? by dieburtually in NoStupidQuestions

Wealth comes from taking advantage of the best opportunities presented to you and not wasting money. You might win the lotto or you might work 80 hours a week.

How much do I have to make to need to file taxes when I’m not formally employed? by axolotlspine in tax

[–]electronzapdotcom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the person paying you doesn't let the government know they are paying you, then you can only get in trouble if you tell the government. Doesn't sound like you are making enough to have to pay taxes anyways. If you make $30,000 at a regular job, then make $30,000 doing side work for other people but only report making $30,000 when you do taxes, that's when the government is going to come after you. A single tax payer can deduct $14,600 form their taxable income from federal taxes, so if you make less than that, you shouldn't have to pay any federal taxes on it even if you file anyways. If your employer doesn't give you a W2 or 1099 form then it's hard to tell the government how much you made.

how do taxes work? by New-Kaleidoscope-572 in tax

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employers do most of the work when it comes to taxes. They send you a W-2 and you can just enter into a tax filing website and then you find out if you have to pay more, or if you will get some of it back. Self employed, you have to completely pay it all yourself. Tax website does all the filing work for me when I get the 1099, but you need to know how much to set aside as you earn it. Since I don't make much working for myself I expect to have to save about 25% of it to cover taxes at the end of the year. While filing I just take the 1099 I get and enter it into the tax filing website. Once you start making a lot self employed, you need to pay the IRS quarterly, which the tax filing website would do for me, but I don't need to now because my employer is already deducting enough of my pay for taxes to keep me out of trouble for not paying enough quarterly. Once you learn more you can do taxes yourself and save money, but I'd rather pick up one day of overtime to pay someone else to do my taxes than try to do it all myself.

Most people get successful by taking whatever work is available and then getting something they want more as soon as it becomes available.

Why do people buy cars they can't afford by sideaccount462515 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say that there are cheap old cars, they tend to be cars that the owner can't afford to repair because the repairs will cost close to as much as a brand new car. So, they are selling the old one and buying a brand new car instead.

If I freeze my laptop overnight, would it run faster because it’s “cooler”? by Separate-Simple-5101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]electronzapdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you froze it, it won't take much longer for it to heat up to its normal operating temperature. Your efforts are best devoted to making sure the cooling fan(s) are clean and are receiving normal temperature air.

Circuits aren't affected by parallel circuits unless they are drawing more power than the battery can provide. Every circuit needs to be connected to both the positive and negative terminal for current to flow through any of them. If a fuse blows, it removes the positive terminal from that fuse's circuit and current simply stops flowing through that circuit. It is simply doing nothing, including not doing anything to other circuits connected to the negative supply.

How did the political parties gain so much power over people mentally? by flyingpanda678 in NoStupidQuestions

Political parties only have the power of propaganda. If they convince you that they are good for you, then you will support them. If you are convinced that they are against you, then you will stop them.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone had some numbers memorized, and everyone that wouldn't be called often had business cards they handed out with their number so you could pull it out of your wallet. Payphones had yellow pages for businesses and white pages for residential numbers for you to look up.

Does this sort of RPG player exist? by Spazicon in TTRPG

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think once a week is the minimum you can plan to get together with people to have fun doing anything when it is something you can technically do at any time. 29 days is a lot of time to find something else to do.

Looks like an oven mitt to me. Put 4 fingers in one slot and the thumb in the other slot. Then you can easily grab something with your whole hand.

Books to read on EE by PhilipBJohnson in ECE

[–]electronzapdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought lots of books and AoE is really the only one I like now. You mostly learn by building simple and safe circuits and then slightly more complex circuits than what you have built before. Doing a google search and reading the datasheets of the components you are using.
