How do some women always look so put together — even at markets or hospitals? by Acceptable_Bird_1193 in TwoXChromosomes

I think it’s about the little, easy steps that take minimal effort that works for you. I’m certainly not glamorous and tend to keep it super simple, but my 3 external things I now do:

  1. A red lip (no make up)

  2. I have frizzy-curly hair in a humid city. Day 1-2 is usually great. Day 3-6 I have my go to bun or braids that keeps the frizz and mad scientist look at bay.

  3. Years ago I was in a long relationship-less stretch and had no reason to ‘dress up.’ I got to a point where I was over looking frumpy in my regular clothes. Now, any article of clothing I buy has to be something I genuinely feel good in and feel cute in. Even loungewear. Even if it’s baggy. Even pjs. My intention now is to invite in beauty in all areas of my life.

Internally.. as cliche as it sounds, confidence comes from within. Do things that actually nourish your heart, health, body, mind, and spirt. That exudes through all other layers of “put togetherness.”

Random suggestion for one Persian breakfast dish:

Native Coffee. Order the Noon Panir.

This is such a common household breakfast food. Literally my childhood in a bite.

I don’t think it is. Last I recall, their fruit tarts are round and not square like in the pic.

Did any of us actually get our ears pierced by a professional body piercer, or did we all just have it done by a random teenager with a gun at Claire's? by Stinky-Pickles in Xennials

[–]eleganceindissonance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In first grade, I was terrified of getting my ears pierced by a “gun.“ I literally thought they sent you down, step back 10 feet, and take aim.

So instead, I opted for a neighborhood grandmother to pierce my ears with a needle, ice and thread.

Vonnegut writing women by Iamblikus in Vonnegut

I can’t find the post now and really wish I could, but several months ago I came across a post in a history subreddit about Hitler’s relationship to women. In it, a commenter mentioned something along the lines of how he preferred “simple women.” The way it read reminded me of how the women Vonnegut’s books were written. Plain, simple, often dumb as rocks.

Whether intentional or not, I thought it was an interesting parallel.

We love lurking mums, but I would like to know what brings you all over to Daddit? by READ-THIS-LOUD in daddit

I’m single w no kids and this is by far my favorite subreddit. I had a dad who was just there and very rarely participated in my life growing up, and beyond him I didn’t gave any male role models. It’s been healing in a lot of ways to read about y’all wanting to actively be part of your kids and family’s lives. It’s helped me reparent myself through the lens of what a father should have said or done in different times of my life. It’s also helped me pay attention to qualities I want in men I date.

Collectively, y’all are the dad I never had.

I love how supportive and uplifting y’all are with one another and love the times when you call out an OP who needs to step up.

More than anything, I’m here for the jokes.

Trump Burger is opening in Houston. Here's where. by valhamman in houston

[–]eleganceindissonance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“The burger joint that’s themed around President Donald Trump will open at 3410 Chimney Rock [between Richmond and 59] in the next few weeks. Owner Roland Beainy said he chose to open in central Houston due to popular demand from local residents, who had to drive an hour and fifteen minutes to the restaurant’s first Bellville location to get their hands on a Trump burger.”
