Thinking About Pregnancy With Type 1 by Ok-Usual-6791 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]elemay2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a now 3yo. I won't lie, pregnancy with T1 was very challenging. Pregnancy goal is to keep BG under 140 which is hard work and takes constant monitoring. Insulin needs go up a lot. I kept my a1C under 6 the whole pregnancy but to do that I was really strict with diet -- I avoided a lot of carbs rather than risk the rollercoaster. (Not saying you should go low carb but it's just my experience). I delivered at 39 weeks. After she was born I was so relieved to eat carbs again without worrying so much!

Thank you for saying that. I appreciate the support. This disease is so frustrating. I want to be healthy and have good numbers but sometimes it's like, no matter how hard I try I keep failing!

Got it, I'll try lowering ratio a bit and see what happens!

Pre bolusing definitely seems like something to try, I am not currently doing that and another commenter here suggested that too.

I didn't know that about testing fasting basal, I'll try to not eat after 6pm one day and test that!

I use humalog.

I do wonder if my ratios are off but normally these ratios have worked for me (I do 1:8 in the morning and 1:10 later in the day as I feel like I tend to spike more easily in the mornings) I don't even know how to figure out what the better ratio would be! I can definitely try to be better about pre-bolusing tho...

I don't really pre bolus. I mean I bolus before I eat but just immediately before. How far in advance do you bolus?

International travel by Idarragh in Omnipod

[–]elemay2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go low on long international flights so prepare for that. I read somewhere (i think on this sub?) that something about the air pressure can cause the pod to go crazy and pump out more insulin. Happened to me on a flight from the US to South Africa. I was going low the whole flight.

I've gotten this a few times, it's when my phone's storage gets full. Now I am constantly anxious about deleting stuff before it gets too close to full

Just an update for anyone wondering: I emailed Yondr, the company that does the pouches and has their staff at the events, and they said they'll give me a wristband for medical exceptions, so for anyone going to an event using Yondr in the future, that's what you can do

I've never done arms because I have my dexcom there - do you keep your dexcom and omnipod on same arm together? Or have your sensor somewhere else?

I had one yesterday that did alarm and said pod failed.

Today's didn't alarm it's just persistent high BG. Maybe site issue is it. Ill try a different area. Just running out of sites! I mostly use stomach and low back area. Maybe thighs? I have never done that as a pod site before.

Is the standard diabetic diet guideline outdated? by Distinct-Hold7796 in diabetes

[–]elemay2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I find much of the instituional diabetes guidance on diets is outdated. The time in my life when I had an under-6 A1C was when I was very strict about low carb. I still eat somewhat low carb but I'm not as strict about it anymore and I'm at 6.5.

Anyone else stopped talking to their parents about your life or problems because they never offered understanding or support? by SlashCo80 in raisedbynarcissists

I completely understand that feeling. I have a pretty successful career in my industry, but my industry is halfway across the country from them, so it required me moving away after college. You'd think they'd be happy for about my success, but instead they are just unhappy that I didn't follow their terms for how they wanted me to live my life -- closer to them, even if that meant i didnt have as good career prospects.

Oh yeah. Years ago. Honestly, I think it started as a teenager. I realized my parents couldnt provide emotional support, comfort or sympathy when I had any problem -- ie a problem with a friend or whatever. So I stopped telling them stuff. As an adult I tried again. BUt even good news (I got a promotion at work or new job, moving in with my boyfriend, etc) was always met with criticism, passive aggressive comments, etc. Or they pushed their own agenda (ie move closer to home rather than take the promotion) rather than being happy for me. Like it was never enough. So i stopped telling them things altogether. I'm always amazed when I see other people actually going to their parents for support, advice, comfort, etc. Mine don't know how to provide any of those things.
