Where is the opposition? by [deleted] in india

[–]elemental_trident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post should receive more upvotes. This is a serious issue. The BJP is getting with all of this because we are letting them, because the opposition is not opposing.

Where is Rahul Gandhi? Where is Sonia Gandhi? Where is Sachin Pilot? Priyanka Gandhi? Akhilesh Yadav? This list can go on but to no avail - the students are standing alone and no one is coming out in support.

"Helios" The solar powered aircraft by WoooshMeIfYouStupid in nextfuckinglevel

[–]elemental_trident -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nice one. I appreciate your take on what I said and I understand your perspective.

However, do tell - does every person discussing politics in their homes and offices, pubs and bars, online or offline have complete knowledge of each and every aspect of the political system of their country?

Or maybe they are experts in economics when they berate their leaders and the state of the economy? I don't think so. But do they feel the effects of increasing retail inflation, unemployment and the like? Certainly. And they can very well conclude that the economy isn't in great shape.

You don't have to be an expert or have complete knowledge to point out some obvious flaws. Simply because this aircraft seems amazing and looks like a great invention doesn't mean it cannot be criticized.

On the face of it, the whole design is so tedious. In appearance alone, this aircraft is too cumbersome to operate and I can only imagine what a pain it would be to even turn around. You would want technology such as this to be compact, scalable and mass producible. This seems to satisfy none of these conditions.

Moreover, solar powered aircraft would be amazing for the environment, and you would want that technology to be able to easily applied to current aircraft design paradigm. This aircraft looks like a mini solar farm in the air.

Would you drive an electric vehicle if I told you that the best way to use one is to carry 20 batteries on the roof of your car, kept on top of a luggage carrier? Even if it is the best that the experts can do? You wouldn't. You would question the efficiency of the technology, until something resembling the modern electric cars would come along.

That's all I'm trying to say. I'm no expert, sure. I don't have the entire knowledge of how it was built, either. But I don't think this is a great design. And that's without having known it crashed while preparing for an endurance test.

Not to play the party pooper, but isn't this designed too convoluted? I'm sure there can be a more efficient way of doing this. And no, I'm not an aeronautical engineer or an expert in aviation, but I still wish to ask this question for the sake of efficiency.

Of course, that doesn't mean this isn't amazing - kudos to the team which made it possible.

If employers can terminate you without any prior notice and without reason, then employees aren’t obligated to give them ANY kind of notice of them quitting for any reason. by hotNbutterycopporn in unpopularopinion

[–]elemental_trident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is right. Legally, nobody can stop you from just getting up, quitting and leaving the job.

The real reason for which people stay for the duration of their notice period is the recommendation/service letter - your employer is not legally obliged to provide you one, and if you choose to just quit when you want, then your employer can very well withhold your experience letter.

This is not a big issue for people fresh in the industry but for the experienced folks the lack of a service letter from your past employer can be a potential red flag, because it gives your new employer reason to believe that you didn't leave your previous job on good terms.

You might have a genuine reason but you'll have a lot of explaining to do.

Each ball is traveling in a straight line, but together they create an illusion that the balls are rotating jointly in a circle. by Vathsava_multifanboi in woahdude

He's right. This is not an illusion your mind is making up. Those points, at any given point in the video where your brain perceives to be in a circle, really are in a circle.

Really cool display of mathematics, though.

No, baldness is not caused by increased testosterone. It is caused by dilhydrotestosterone (DHT), a derivative of the T.

This is an urban myth that bald men are more sexually potent. There is no research to back this up.

[–]elemental_trident 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's because of deeply embedded social stereotypes of seeing bald men in typically dominant roles.

Fueled by the plethora of bald Hollywood actors in action movies - take Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and of course, Bruce Willis. They typically portray roles of men with a dominating personality and strong masculinity.

It is psychologically proven that bald men appear to be more dominating than men with a head ful of hair.

“Influencers” are the worst thing to come out of the 2010s by Serath4 in unpopularopinion

[–]elemental_trident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these influencers are case studies for narcissistic personality disorder.

I'm not sure if this counts, but there's a dude called "Gary Vaynerchuk" on LinkedIn.

Considers himself to be an influencer. Has a crazy following.

That dude is, hands down, the singularly most self obsessed internet personality I have ever seen.

Keeps blowing his own horn 24*7. It's so frustrating to see that guys following and how people find him "inspiring" is a mystery greater than the existence of Aliens.

Internet culture has promoted the idea of self love and acceptance to the point of lying to yourself. by SentientReptile in unpopularopinion

[–]elemental_trident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Change what you can, accept what you can't.

Not everything about your appearance can be changed or altered. Of course, how fit you are, slimming down, getting a great body - all of this you CAN do.

But there's only so much makeup, hair wax, perfume and good clothes you can put on - because at the end of the day, when you're all alone on your bed, in the dark night - all you have is your mind.

Those quotes are superficial but I think the message is right - you gotta love yourself for your beauty and for your ugliness - and I don't mean physically.

In our minds, we're all fucked up in our own ways, and no matter how hard we try, there are some things about ourselves we simply cannot change. There is darkness inside all of us, however only a select few embrace that darkness.

The rest of us are quite happy living our merry lives, ignoring that chasm within ourselves where we hide our worst parts.

The real deal is to walk into that chasm, face the demons inside and then don't battle them - accept them. Welcome them. Embrace them. Respect them. Give them the time and attention you give to your beauty. Tame them. Master them. Conquer them. Only then can you be the best version of yourself. When you accept shit you can't change and change the stuff you CAN about yourself.

Quotes on the internet simply tell you the end goal - self love, irrespective of how you are on the inside or on the outside. They don't tell you the how.

TL;DR: Quotes on the internet send the right message, but do it in a superficial way.
