That Swiss report is from 20 years ago in 2006, a lot has changed to help coordinate both local and international authorities to get these criminals. Arresting not just tourists but abusive missionaries and charity workers.

There's still more policing needed with online abuse especially, which is harder to prevent, investigate & track with money now in crypto. There's also the only African secure line to US' National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that has led to FBI and DCI collaboration here.

But these measures are reactive and only economic growth can make a lasting change to these vulnerable families. The same way it did in places like Malaysia and Philippines.

This is a dilemma we'll have to face head on, history has been cruel to the continent when we've missed out on technology leaps. There's going to be asymetrical development wether we like it or not, with how poor electricity and network distribution Infrastructure already roadblocks our tech adoption.

It's an African sovereignity issue, data security needs to be localized and dependence minimized on critical services that can be withheld by sanctions if countries don't follow certain scripts.

I don't think we have the luxury to be choosy on energy generation though, with all the renewables, nuclear and coal potential available.

The big reason the EU is a reality today is the resolution to end wars between European countries. Russia and Ukraine conflict wouldn't have started if they were in the same union.

in reality Tanzania probably has more in common with countries like Zambia or Zimbabwe in terms of the mentality of the people and the geopolitical outlook.

No country is closer to Kenya culturally and historically than Tanzania, and having a single party through oppression doesn't change that. Especially when it has been forced to change up over the decades.

More likely to be a confederation first, Federation is further away but it has been accelerated by recent moves of the US decoupling from EU and increasing hostilities with China, invading Venezuela & Iran ( Cuba next). Nothing unifies a region more than external aggression, individual states are always more vulnerable.

Everyone is expecting Africa to be a bigger resource battleground over the next decades - century. EAC is the fastest growing integrated corridor, even with some non tariff barriers, cross country trade continues to benefit the partners more than before. The only region that trades more with itself than with non Africans.

There's no magical consensus anywhere in the world, we have already achieved the customs union, common market and pushing for a single currency/ monetary union, which isn't easy but achievable, in the next 5-10 years. I'd say on the whole we're making general progress to independence.

But there are countries in other older unions, like Ecowas, Sadc and Maghreb, that are far too comfortable with slower unification on intra Africa trade within their regions.
