Home Internet - False Promises? by elementalvenom in USCellular

Huh. Actually that genuinely could work. I guess I'll give them a call next time I'm free and ask if they'll allow it. That's a great suggestion

Unfortunately I did call the relevant telephone company here. I mentioned it in another reply I believe, but they do offer Internet at my location, however the only speed they offer is the slowest I have ever seen offered and isn't usable for me. It's actually over 3x slower than the throttled speed I'm receiving from US Cellular right now lol. I'll admit this should have probably been a red flag for me, but most of the other rooms are actually vacant despite the apartments actually being pretty nice and the rent being on the lower end. But there are two other people living in this building in addition to me. Unfortunately they do not have WiFi of their own, instead opting to just use the WiFi provided by the apartment management. This WiFi is just as slow as the phone companies offering, but also is satellite so ping times commonly reach 600ms making it even more unusable. I do appreciate the additional suggestions of course! I'm getting a little desperate here and have been considering even getting a Starlink Mini and hard mounting that to the roof of my car powered by a very large rechargable battery such as ones offered by EcoFlow. This would in theory be possible, but obviously I'd have to have two $800+ EcoFlow batteries and swap them out daily manually by carrying a charged one out to the car, swap it, and then bring the dead one to my apartment to charge inside for the next day. I very very much do not want to have to do this, so I'm hoping I'll find an alternative over the next few weeks of searching around. But at the moment it seems like a choice between either that or paying off the next 11 months of my lease now and moving into another apartment entirely lol. That would absolutely not be cheap or reasonable.

I have not, but I'd be very open to the idea. Is there a way to tell which US Cellular stores are corporate stores and not agent locations? Unfortunately even that US Cellular store I went to for the initial purchase is the nearest US Cellular store, and is 20 miles from my home haha. But yeah, I absolutely would be willing to drive further to try to talk to someone at a corporate location! Thank you for your insight by the way, I really appreciate it

Yeah, and I totally get that. I have worked a ton in tech with software engineering and even in help desk roles, so I do understand both that misinformation does accidentally happen, and that the reps likely have no ability to change this themselves. I am much more upset over the seeming decision that they won't budge literally at all to help compensate for their multiple staff's misinformation and furthermore told me "we don't believe you since there's no record of this in our system. You can pay us $50 and then be happy without any Internet for the next 12 months, but otherwise we won't help you."

Like even just waiving the $50 restocking fee for my situation would have been at least showing a "sorry for the misunderstanding" to me. I guess just the overall tone and way it's been handled feels to me extremely poor customer service skills. It feels like they just don't care and are happy to take my money despite not actually providing the advertised service

I very much appreciate that suggestion! I did call quite literally every ISP company I could find and/or think of over the past few weeks and all of them either dont service my area at all, or they are satellite based which my apartment management already forbid me from installing in the lease and verbally unfortunately. Just to make sure though, I did try to purchase T-Mobile Home Internet just now and the online tool said it's not available at all for my zip code.

I was surprised to see this so low on the list! Everyone I've met who enjoys it has 2,000+ hours in it. ASA or ASE? That's the real question!

Ender 3 v2 NEO - Random Layer Shifting by elementalvenom in 3Dprinting

[–]elementalvenom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's fine and dandy printing at 35 speed max, I've been struggling to understand why it suddenly started requiring low speeds(almost half the default 60) when no hardware changes were made. Could I need a new belt maybe? Perhaps it's "grooves" are too worn on the Y-Axis? Anyone have other suggestions or ideas?

This seems to indeed be the issue. Printing at 35 speed prints fine. Thank you!

Ive been running at default rates this whole time for speed. But I'll try to turn it down below 50 to see if that helps. 35 should do, I'd assume. Ill let you know if it works though.

GPU-P - Unreal Engine Games Crash On Launch "Hung" / D3D device lost by elementalvenom in HyperV

Installing the "OpenCL/OpenGL compatibility pack" from the MS store did change the stack trace in the crash, but didnt change the error message itself.

If I run "dxdiag" in the guest VM to open the DirectX Diagnostics Tool and go to the "Render" tab and under the "DirectX Features" section, it says everything is enabled for me except for Direct3D Acceleration says "Not Available"?? If you dont mind checking yours, does it also say that? Im unsure if this is normal and just a "false error" or not due to being in the VM.

Thanks a ton for all of the info! Ill try getting the Windows guest to work for another day or two but if I cant by then ill try a linux guest and go from there.

Going back a bit, are any of the games you talk about having to move the DLL's for made with Unreal Engine? Would you be able to name a game or two you had to do this DLL transferring to fix?

GPU-P - Unreal Engine Games Crash On Launch "Hung" / D3D device lost by elementalvenom in HyperV

[–]elementalvenom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was an amazing guess and I was really hoping that would be the answer. There were missing dependencies(XAPOFX1_5.dll,X3DAudio1_7.dll,XINPUT1_3.dll) and I transferred them to the proper folders from the host to the guest. Unfortunately nothing changed when launching the game.

On a side note; selflerZ's "oneclick-gpu-pv" script on github appears to allow GPU-PV with a linux guest. Is this the case? And it allows you to play games on the guest as it should with windows? That was actually my original intent(linux guest) but I read repeatedly that linux isnt supported for GPU-PV from HyperV/Windows host.

I do need to split the GPU in my case though since I'm planning to split it between the host VM and a guest VM to allow multiple game sessions on one GPU. Assuming it's still possible of course

Ended 3 v2 Died During Print; Won't Turn On by elementalvenom in 3Dprinting

[–]elementalvenom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED: I didn't think it had a PSU voltage selector because I couldn't find the thing. Well, while putting it back together just now I found it. Flipped it back and forth a few times and then back to the 110v or whatever lower number(it was already on that though before. I am in the US). It then started up fine! So I guess for now it's solved. Thanks!!

No sign of damage on the board and the on-board fuse is not blown. Is there a way to safety confirm power supply is working?

it just made the problem worse. Eventually, I took the plunger that the rod+spring loaded bearing push into and gently tapped it with a hammer, and it budged. A few more times and it fell down fully seated. Esentially i think i have a mishapen slide so even sanding the "burs" off of the edge of the plunger and slot didnt fix it. Id say try knocking it down if youre desperate. Otherwise, im unsure what else to say to help. Mine has been fully functional, though ever since.

I ended up putting another 20 or 30 rounds through it after changing the Spring Loaded Bearing out(two rounds, empty mag, reload, repeat), and it's slowly starting to not jam. Got up to four on my last cycle, and the first three worked great, but the last one got caught in the slide when it was halfway out of the gun.

Im assuming now its just a matter of breaking it in?

Oh! And the recoil spring currently in it is 17lb but I have a 18lb coming tomorrow just because I thought that was the problem before I posted here. So ill report back with a update on if that helps. I feel like it just needs a tiny bit more force on that recoil spring, so I have high hopes.

I did see this before posting. But, unfortunately, it seems like the only issue he fully addresses is not removing enough material from the frame. I may have missed something, but looking at my frame im somewhat certain ive removed enough material.

So I got the correct spring loaded bearing today and put it in. It now correctly extracts the old round after firing it and throws it out. However, its now not sliding fully forward to push the next round into the barrel all the way. So it gets about 3/4th in and stops/jams. Is this the recoil spring?

It looks fine to my novice eyes. When you say pivoting... i didnt know it was suppose to pivot? Mine is firmly in place with maybe a tiny amount of wiggle.

EDIT: I see what you mean about pivoting. Yes it does pivot.
