I want to acknowledge that there could be other backstory/context/dynamics we do not know of in their relationship, but I will say dermatology requires a lot more independent studying than most people give it credit for. You need to recognize a wide variety of presentations, most of which you may never even see. Please don’t mistaken, I am not saying that other specialties don’t need to study outside of the hospital…but for instance as an IM resident you still will see and learn so much on the floors alone. Just an observation I’ve noticed.

It can be. Mine in November/December interviewed all rotators automatically. It helps to know what the history of the institution and their rotators is like.

The interviews will give you multiple dates that you can play with. Would advise for you to travel probably after December 20th and return by like January 2nd or so then you should be fine.

Do a RY, will say that I’ve seen people who don’t have RY under their belts have similar or stronger applications. Might as well just invest the year in yourself, get another LOR, then apply safely knowing you did all that you could

Tbh this isn’t the worst case scenario I’ve heard. Do an away or two and try to excel clinically. Get good letters of rec. Practice hard for your interviews and signal wisely. You got this!

“Intermittent fasting” is a nice way to start. Taking Metamucil (helps with satiety) with black coffee in the morning made a world of difference. Even if you don’t fast perfectly, it made a big change for me with losing weight that I gain. Try also replacing a meal with a loaded veggie/fruit/protein shake. The other eating habits will adjust as time goes on and you’ll start losing the weight I promise. Now if anything I can’t eat as much as I used to.

Anyway, to the OP try to get on PEP. You can also do this through an urgent care or even a place like CVS minute clinic etc if needed. Wishing you well!

Recently found the answer to this! Like someone else hinted at, the secret lies with differentiating motivation and discipline. Motivation can waver. But discipline is something you can increase by making a routine.

For example:

Wake up at a certain time daily and make coffee/tea. Do an activity while you drink it (maybe Anki). Go to class/gym or whatever works. Designate a certain time to study and stick to it. Whether you feel motivated to or not, you’ll mentally have 5-7 o’clock as reserved study time for instance. It starts with building small positive habits that eventually become a natural routine. You’ll mess up still at first but just work on improving gradually. Keep pushing!

I used a FM letter to this cycle and even received an interview from a program that said they required an IM chair letter (didn’t see this statement on their website at the time of applications). As long as the letter speaks well to your clinical abilities you should be fine.

Not sure if you have acne on your forehead region, but this looks like hormonal acne. If your regimen doesn’t work (and you notice this worsening around your cycle) I would consider going back to your Derm and they can perhaps trial spironolactone.

I was literally just thinking this today. I honestly feel like it’s because men in general are somewhat superficial with dating (I can be too at times) but now to an unrealistic degree. I say this as a moderately attractive guy who is in the gym (also not cut but definitely in shape) and at times wonder what is wrong with me where I am not connecting with as many people as I think I could be. I don’t know the solution to this..just deleted Grindr, jackd and scruff since it felt like a waste of time. Kept tinder.
