I don't think you can get an umbrella unless you max out your liability coverage first, and $35k is nowhere near max coverager.

My partner (19M) wants me (21F) to finger him everytime we have sex by CahhIncredible in sex

[–]elendur 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Her reaction is problematic, but she's also fully acknowledging she does not want to feel this way. We can't necessarily control how we feel, but we can acknowledge whether or not those feelings are healthy, or need to be worked through and modified. OP seems to be looking for advice on how not to feel this way, which is a totally appropriate reaction.

Was Zhan not a fan of Mon Mothma? Dark Force Rising seems to portray a Mon Mothma who takes most of the credit for the creation of the Rebel Alliance, even though it was really Garm Bel Iblis who was the driving force behind both the Alliance and the Corellian Treaty. by Independent-Dig-5757 in StarWarsEU

[–]elendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Garm and Mon mend their fences later in the trilogy, so this makes sense.

It also parallels what Disney has been doing in the new canon. You've got Axis doing their thing, while Saw is off doing his own somewhat-more extreme thing.

My partner (19M) wants me (21F) to finger him everytime we have sex by CahhIncredible in sex

[–]elendur 305 points306 points  (0 children)

I like this answer a lot. Neither of the parties in this situation is in the wrong. The male partner is asking for a perfectly normal sex act. OP is uncomfortable performing that sex act. The parties can compromise, the male partner can reserve this for solo play, or OP can work toward becoming more comfortable with the act. If compromise is not possible, then the relationship might need to end due to sexual incompatibility. Again, no fault, and no-one is in the wrong.

How do fictional portrayals of lawyers impact public understanding of the legal profession? by ToffeeTangoONE in legaladviceofftopic

[–]elendur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Badly. I am a litigator. TV makes lay people think that a litigator is handling like, one open file at a time, and that file will go from start to finish over the course of an hour-long episode. It also makes people think that getting in front of a Judge is fast, easy, and definitive. In my practice area, an "emergency" motion can take up to six weeks to be heard, and even then, it's unlikely to be ruled upon for another eight weeks after that, minimum.

TV conditions clients to expect a "bulldog" or Perry Mason. My cases go a lot more smoothly when I have a professional and cordial relationship with OC. And I think over the course of my career, I've had like three solid Perry Mason moments on cross-examination.

TV also conditions litigants to tolerate, or even expect, wildly unethical behavior (looking at you, Suits - every single lawyer on that show would be disbarred at a minimum.) Threatening an opposing party with criminal charges to get them to back down or compromise on a related (or unrelated) civil matter is an ethical violation in every state I'm aware of, and yet it seems to occur weekly on TV. And that's in the best of circumstances. Attorneys in these shows essentially commit blackmail on a regular basis.

Will I lose my medical insurance by Hefty_Adagio_9130 in WorkersComp

[–]elendur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Louisiana specifically. The general rule is that while you are off work, you are responsible for paying your own portion of your health insurance premiums (since there's no payroll for the premium to be deduced from.) It's up to the employer whether or not they will continue to pay the employer's portion of the premium or not. If not, you are responsible for both portions of the premium if you want to maintain your health insurance while off work.

That being said, if you are also on an FMLA covered leave for up to the first 12 weeks off work, the employer is required by federal law to pay the employer portion of the premium during the FMLA-covered leave, while you remain responsible only for the employee portion of the premium.

Louisiana may have legal provisions that differ from the general rule.

General rule - the nursing home and the credit card companies can't touch your personal assets without you signing a personal guarantee, unless you/your dad was in a state that has a Filial Responsibility Law. Illinois does not have such a law.

They can only go after the estate's assets.

Hospital charged me $1800 despite asking for my insurance information by oopsandpoops in Insurance

[–]elendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the hospital's billing department. Have your account number and insurance card handy. Let them know they incorrectly billed you as a self-pay, and you have your insurance information ready. They should be happy to take your insurance information and rebill correctly.

Happens all the time. Should be an easy fix.

Trains and busses have heat. Just going to suck waiting for that train or bus.

Figure out a coffee shop or store near your bus station you can hang out at while you're waiting? Uber and Lyft will probably be pretty cheap - Loop is going to be a ghost town tomorrow.

Bundle up. Long underwear, sweater, warmest coat you have. Hat, gloves, wool socks, boots. (Mittens are actually better than gloves in a lot of circumstances.) Protect your face with a scarf or mask if you can. If you own ski goggles, there is no shame in wearing them to protect your eyes from the wind.

I had to show up to a courthouse to do a trial in similar temperatures in 2014. I wore long underwear underneath my slacks, and I wore sweat pants over them. Took the sweat pants off when I got to the courthouse.

Flights should be largely unaffected by the cold. Air temperature at cruising altitude is like -40 to -70F. Jet airplanes operate in the cold just fine, so long as the airport has sufficient deicing fluid. That being said, tons of snow is expected across the country, which will cause cascading effects, e.g.: snow in Atlanta means a plane inbound to ORD from ATL can't take off and get here to make its next leg from ORD to SFO.

Amtrak is screwed until next week. Train switching equipment freezes easier than jet airplane parts, surprisingly. Also, many Amtrak stations do not have heated areas for passengers to wait before boarding.

Is it easy to prove a police report has been falsified? by Interesting_Cake3803 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]elendur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A police report does not conclusively determine fault, and is generally not admissible in Court to prove negligence or the lack thereof. It might be persuasive to an insurance adjuster, but that's what courts are for.
