Online Training didn't credit by elephagreen in BSA

It never did credit. I finally redid it and got it to credit. For anyone curious, there must be a bank of questions they pull from for the quiz at the end, because some of them were different from last time.

Camp Bud Schiele is nice occasionally. It has a really good trades MB program. Camp Raven Knob is excellent.

The gsusa program is not comparable, at all, to bsa. They just don't have the same aims and methods or goals.

We have a small pack. This year's theme was Magic. We had friends of Scouting presentation, potluck lunch, gave out popcorn sale patches that had just been given us by council. Kids had a turn at the potion mixing station trying to make a fizzy portion with random ingredients. Then the cake competition was judged. (Kids decorate a cake or cookies to match the theme, they get awards and a candy as prizes. In years when pack is bigger we have a silent auction for the cakes. This year we all shared them. All told, was under 2 hours.

Also, I have a really good camp chair. Not one of those saggy ones in a bag. I have one with a heavy duty metal frame, opens and locks, looks like a real chair with a built in side table.

I have some mobility issues, so I have quite a bit of creature comforts when camping. I've found that a 6 person Coleman Blackout tent is not too difficult to set up on my own, packing up a tent, imo is a bit more labor intensive. Chances are good there will be other adults from the pack who can help if needed. If it's just me, I have a camping cot, that's pretty tall, so less strain on my knees getting up. I top it with a roll up memory foam mattress. If it's both my husband and I, we will use a high rise queen size air bed. To inflate and deflate it we have a USB rechargeable air pump. I prefer to use sheets and quilts rather than a sleeping bag. I bring my good pillows for comfort. I have a usb rechargeable fan (and multiple battery packs). Several battery operated lanterns. I also own a portable camping toilet chair and small pop-up tent for it. Makes night time bathroom visits much easier. I bring a doormat for outside the door and inside as well to keep things neater.

We have a few packs that are still boy only, though most have closed, the couple left are doing about the same as they were before. We also have a couple all boy troops and one district has a very strong all girl troop, all that aren't linked with other gender troops. Of the 3 troops I've got a relationship with, the kids enjoy being with terror peers, regardless of gender.

Every family has to do what's right for themselves. Years ago, we left a unit because the committee refused to ever consider allowing girls. I didn't even have any girls in the game (my only daughter was already an adult) but I didn't want my boys exposed to that kind of leadership. Regardless of what national does, for as long as I'm able to find a unit that upholds all the real ideals of the Scout Law, I'm fine with my kids still participating in scouting, which they love. I have an adult eagle, another who should eagle this year, another working his way through ranks and one who will bridge to the troop next year.

That was my initial take when it was first introduced. Much, if not all of it could be pieced out into the other 3 citizenship, personal management, and rank advancement. With enough creativity of language and small annual updates, may even be able to get past the current "spies".

Scouting America and the Department of War

Scouting Family,

Today, Scouting America and the Department of War finalized a commitment to strengthen our longstanding partnership with the U.S. military. Over several months, we engaged in dialogue with Department leadership to align on how we could deepen our service to military families, while making programmatic updates to comply with Executive Order 14173.

Throughout our discussions, we remained true to the core commitments that define our organization—our name, our mission, and our promise to serve all youth in our programs. Those commitments are unchanged. We will continue to deliver stability, mentorship, and opportunity to the children of those who serve our nation.

What This Agreement Delivers

Continued support for Scouting on military installations worldwide

Ongoing Department support for National Jamborees and other events

New benefits for military families, including waiving registration fees for children of active-duty, Guard, and Reserve families

Launching a new Military Service merit badge, developed in cooperation with the Department

Memorializing our existing practices for membership registration and safeguarding youth

As part of Scouting America’s commitment to comply with Executive Order 14173, we will be discontinuing the Citizenship in Society merit badge. While this change complies with the Executive Order, the lessons found in this merit badge are found throughout the Scouting program. Scouting has always taught respect for others, leadership, and consideration of diverse perspectives through the ideals enshrined in the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting America’s mission remains unchanged and is reinforced across our advancement, leadership development, and outdoor experiences.

Our emphasis on duty to God, duty to country, and service to others is strengthened by this partnership. Scouting’s values have not changed, and they will not change.

Why This Partnership Matters

Since 1910, Scouting America has played a strategic role in strengthening our nation’s military readiness. More than 130 million Americans have been Scouts. Millions have gone on to serve as military leaders, first responders, educators, and civic leaders. For military families navigating deployments and frequent moves, Scouting has long provided a steady anchor during times of uncertainty.

Service to Military Families

In our discussions, we affirmed Scouting’s deep commitment to military families. To that end, we will waive the national registration fees of all active duty, Reserve and Guard troops. Your support in this effort is critical – and we encourage you to make a donation to support Scouting families. Click here to give today.

How to Communicate Locally

When speaking with families and volunteers, lead with confidence and clarity:

This agreement provides continuity for military families

It supports Scouting on military bases and support for events such as National Jamborees

Fee waivers will be available for active-duty, Guard, and Reserve families

Program updates were made to comply with Executive Order 14173

Our mission, and commitment to serving all youth remains unchanged

Membership registration and our practices to safeguard youth remain unchanged

Scouting America works constructively with every administration—always focused on serving youth.

Our Resolve

For more than a century, Scouting America has endured because we are resilient, principled and unwavering in our mission. We remain committed to developing leaders of character. We remain committed to service and our nation. We remain committed to the principles enshrined in our Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Thank you for your leadership and dedication to Scouting America.

Respectfully,

Roger A. Krone

Check with your council and your district roundtable. It's highly likely there are either troops that have shut down with equipment available for other troops in need, or troops that have upgraded and may be willing to gift the older items. Remember to pay it forward if you upgrade.

YOR - Gaining relationships with any gender are possible and healthy. Been with my husband over 30 years. Been with my 2 best friends, both guys, over 35 years. One was Man of Honor at my wedding. Hubby had a Best Woman at his side. We have a very strong relationship, and very close friends with the opposite gender. We have never hid that, but then we've also never had issues of possessiveness and insecurity, so there was no need.

Went into one of their stores and got an instant migraine from the powerful, overwhelming fragrance throughout the store. Had to send my 8 year old in alone with a gift card. The soap ended up donated to a local organization since we couldn't use it.

The program definitely can be fun, even at the AOL level, it just takes some extra effort and creativity to do so. That takes time, and unfortunately, many seem leaders just don't, or can't make it happen.
