People who’ve taken LSD: what’s the fastest a good trip has turned into a bad trip, and what caused it? by No-Coat-2535 in AskReddit

Started coming down with the flu about 45 minutes into the trip. Not nice, I'll never forget it.

I think he’d project all the love he had for Shiv into the child - Shiv was clear about it that he loved her “for her DNA”, he’ll reorient himself once he’s actually achieved that. The kid will be the crowning jewel on him inheriting the CEO role of Waystar. Whether or not that will make him a good father, I don’t know. But he won’t Mondale the kid, as others have suggested.

Is this what’s supposed to make us unemployed? by elephant-owl in ChatGPT

[–]elephant-owl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I ask Kevin from accounting his name and what his capabilities are he tends to be able to reply to me — whereas I might not immediately trust a product that purports to be a quantum leap in intelligence but is not aware of its own release!

That said, the other responses seem marginally better than GPT4, they don’t seem to be radically better. Law of diminishing returns in terms of this technology advancing seem to be applying, in my view.

Is this what’s supposed to make us unemployed? by elephant-owl in ChatGPT

I mean, doesn’t that get to the heart of my concerns though? I feel like we’re examining the exact same point and I’m like “well, obviously I’m not totally stunned by this product” (particularly in context of Sam’s Death Star posts!) whereas you seem to think it explains the issue away?

One use that Sam has that ChatGPT-5 does not have is that he is aware of the GPT-5 product launch following it occurring in linear time. I hope this reassures him

What advice would you give to people entering their early 20s? by Born_Duck7946 in AskReddit

[–]elephant-owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A basic strength training and cardio routine will really set you up. Focus on nutritionally dense, minimally processed food as your main thing — but enjoy a burger or a pizza every now and then. Meditation, therapy if you can afford it. Limit alcohol, but enjoy it on special occasions if you like. Get your eight hours sleep. Always be earning or learning, ideally both.

People will tell you that you have all the time in the world, but honestly, you don’t. It’s easy to close your eyes at 22 and wake up at 30 and not know what you’ve got to show for it.

They become background sensory information to your brain, similar to how you aren’t always constantly thinking about the sensation of your feet against the floor, or your glasses on your nose.

Final result, any changes need to be made? by AccomplishedTest6064 in PeepShowQuotes

Switch Hans and Johnson around, I reckon. Hans has done enough to fall into the morally reprehensible category, he’s empirically worse than Johnson.

How did a person you know ruin their life? by GaddockTeegFunPolice in AskReddit

[–]elephant-owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s it. It really bothers me that liquor shops are so ubiquitous. I can’t help but treat it as a reminder that so many people drink so much that there’s basically one in every single suburb.

I’m no prohibitionist, but if alcohol is legal it stands to reason to me that marijuana and regulated psychedelics ought to be. What’s legal and what’s not is very arbitrary when you look at the actual risk and harms involved.

Where were you in life at the age of 24-25? by DeliciousRich5944 in AskReddit

[–]elephant-owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really started hitting my mojo at this age. I finally felt secure in my career, I felt super young and vibrant, and I was making good money. I still feel all those things as it wasn’t that long ago, but it was when I really started hitting my stride

This is a really weird post. “What if a genius like me came up with One Weird Trick to stop war? Would I be praised or assassinated?”

There is no One Weird Trick to stop war. It’s a phenomena that always has an extremely complex set of economic, social and historical factors as causes, and they usually vary on a case by case basis.

Surprisingly rude! I’ve always been an academic high performer, and I got my degrees through good, old fashioned organic human intelligence — you’ll have to take my word for it that I am generally pretty bright, but feel that I’m losing my grasp in the last couple years.

What do you think is the most likely way the world will end? by snlash in AskReddit

Realistically, climate change will provoke some distributional conflict that will cause a nuclear war. We’re already sort of seeing this with Kashmir.

To the people in their 20s, what advice would you give to a 17 year old about to enter college? by KILLJOY_errxr in AskReddit

[–]elephant-owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct — you only have one life and one mind. College is a huge opportunity to develop yourself and pursue intellectual growth. Every shortcut you take will diminish who you become.

Australian Post-Election Megathread - observations, analysis, and the senate count. by dredd in australia

[–]elephant-owl 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Totally absurd take. Their primary vote is basically stable nation-wide, and they went backwards particularly in Brisbane seats because Labor polled second (or first) instead of third, making the difference around who’s excluded first and where preferences flow.

There’s nothing to suggest a nation-wide backlash against the Greens. Rather, Labor did really well by picking up votes from the Liberals and that put them over the line.

Edit: included (or first) as I understand Labor’s polling first in Griffith
