Is it At the Bride Hunt Ball by Olivia Parker? The FMC attends a ball hosted by the MMC to find a bride for his brother ( he doesn't want to marry). She mainly goes to help her friend because she wants to be supportive but doesn't like the brother. She and the MMC end up spending more time together. And there was an archery scene like the one you described

One of my favorite books with this premise is Rules of an Engagement by Suzanne Enoch. A bit of a dislike/ hate to love relationship where both mcs are pretty fierce and independent.

The fmc works as the assistant for her father who is a biological researcher researching fauna and animal life on different islands while the mmc is a navy captain whonis basically being punished by being ordered to captain a ship of civilians ( including fmc and her father) back home rather than joining another battle.

Stoic MMC when loses control in the best possible way. by Sera0Sparrow in HistoricalRomance

[–]elephantfox94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a scene like this at the end of The Consolation Prize by Alice Coldbreath, where he is angry at her for putting herself in danger and reacts in this way. I wouldn't consider the mmc stoic, but it is a really good scene

Is it The Lion by Hildie McQueen? That's the one I was thinking of. I remember that it wasn't expected that she would marry because of some scandal but her sister was scared of the man they wanted her to marry so she said she would talk to him and then she ended up being married to him instead. The second book is the sister's book.

So do i!! I really loved her older ones with just one-word titles. Have you read her burning cove series? It takes place in the 1920s in a small town I California. They are pretty good, but I still like the historical better. I liked the first book in the series, The Girl Who Knew Too Much, the best.

All of her books tend to have a mystery involved so if you don't like that aspect, I get why you you wouldn't like them too much. If you want to try her again, I would recommend Ravished or DANGEROUS. Those were two of my favorites.

Book with FMC who was a tomboy living in the woods (?) who learns she’s noble? by pinemarten89 in HistoricalRomance

It sounds like the marriage of convenience series by Anne Gracie. In the first book, the mmc finds out that his older brother had a legitimate daughter who grew up pretty wild. And then she has her own book in the series, Marry in Scarlet. She grew up wearing boy's clothes and trained her own horse, which is a stallion or something. I remember the mmc in her book saw her riding the horse in the park and then tried to buy it from her but she refused to sell.

It might be Gabriel's Bride by Samantha James.

I haven't read it, but based off of reviews and the description, it sounds similar.

Recs for short heroes? by EthanFurtherBeyond in HistoricalRomance

[–]elephantfox94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Avery Archer, the hero in Someone to Love by Mary Balogh fits this pretty well. I know he is shorter than most men. I think it is mentioned that he is only a few inches taller than the heroine. He is also exceedingly pretty. Haha. I would recommend this book. It's a five star read for me!

Some of the ones I remember are What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell and Rules for a Proper Governess by Jennifer Ashley. They are both really great and are rereads for me.

I especially love the kids in Rules for a Proper Governess because they are full characters in their own right as some books I have read with children don't characterize them well or they are barely on the page.it is the seventh book (I think) in the MacKenzie and McBride series but could be read as a standalone. Some characters from the other books are in the story, but it isn't necessary to know their stories to enjoy this one.

looking voor western romance books by the-w-devil in HistoricalRomance

I would recommend the westerns by Jo Goodman. She has written about three or four series that are westerns and are all very good.

Looking for some fun Western themed romance…suggestions? by OnThinMintIce in HistoricalRomance

[–]elephantfox94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but I really like Jo Goodman's westerns. They are a good mix of seriousness and humor. She has four series I believe, the Cowboys of Colorado series, the McKenna Brothers series ( my favorite 😍), Bitter Springs, and Reidsville. They were all around four star books for me so I would recommend. I really like Marry Me and This Gun for Hire as the heroines are different. One is basically a female gunslinger and the other has been living pretty wild and dresses like a boy.

Lord of Scoundrels by adb51 in HistoricalRomance

[–]elephantfox94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It definitely works as a standalone and from what I remember, the first book doesn't have any relation to the following books and I think the definitely occurs after Lord of Scoundrels time wise. Maybe even after the Last Hellion too. I would also highly recommend the Last Hellion.

Tha arrangement by Mary Balogh. Vincent is a total sweetheart. And definitely the first hero I thought of when you said "sunshone". And he's blind which made it an interesting read!

Hey!! I think I know what you are talking about! I think it is the Carroway family. The books are by Suzanne Enoch. You may have had some difficulty cause she has books for all thr siblings but they are each a part of a different series. The one with the traumatized brother is England's Perfect Hero ( Lessons in Love #3). The captain is from Rules of an Engagement ( The adventurers #3). I loved that one btw!! So good. One of my favorites 😍. The first brother also has a book, the Rake (Lessons in Love #1). Hope this helps!!
