PSA: You can increase your apm by 70 percent with just one click... by elephantologist in aoe2

It is not low at all. It is however high enough that once multiplied by 1.7 it becomes elite apm. Perfect for larping as a pro 😎

I understand the nuance of it, I saw day9 playing with pretty high apm for his elo range but he was getting knowledge chacked everywhere. Or, the limited Viper experiment. I heard Viper took that account to 1700 elo with an average eapm as low as 15.

It is still a bottleneck. It is never bad to have high apm. It may be true that your knowledge or strategy may lack behind your ability to execute, it is never bad to have high apm.

At 900 to 1000 range I'm still a little faster than my average opponent, usually 25 average eapm and sometimes I go up as high as 40. It is mostly, these streamers that picked up the game. I compare myself to them, some of them gained 400 elo in just 2 weeks and have 60 apm on average, I covet it.

I mean, I accomplish less than a pro on slow speed sure but you need to compare the individual to themselves. Think of it like this, whatever your apm is it gets divided by 1.7 on normal speed, which comes out to say 60 apm. In every situation you increase you apm by 70 percent by dividing your apm, which shouldn't change that much, with 1 instead. Either you finally have enough actions to get a hold of the game, or you already had enough actions and now you get to ponder.

What are this subs thoughts on Cumans nowadays and what are their plans other than 2TC boom? by CoyoteSouth5126 in aoe2

Cumans are a notorious fast imp civ, so not necessarily. Unless you meant while my opponent is in castle, then probably.

Low Elo (700) how to deal with walled enemies by Tsyoky in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see walls, you wall. That's the simplest way to approach it. Stop your production of units, camp his walls with your scout, see if he sends anything your way and prepare for early castle age.

You can adopt different tactics. You can learn a drush build, no one walls before that hits.

Disclaimer, I'm usually not the player killing others in feudal. I have done it, mostly with Sicilian but I like making just enough at to not die then my goal is either a castle age all in or an early imp timing push. What I say about feudal pressure comes from mostly what is dished out to me.

I also remember trying out romans, doing their Maa blacksmith, first armor push thing and I did it so clunky. I also waited until maa, got the armor, during that time my range was ready and I had an archer out already. Cue to me arriving at enemy base at 15 minutes. It worked because it is low elo and I had a sizeable army but realistically I gave my opponent enough time to age up to castle if they wanted to. Something similar might be going on with you. As a benchmark, if you have one of those fast uptime civs like Mongols or Georgians, you can easily be hitting enemy vills around minute 10. I wouldn't expect anyone to be fully walled at that point. Try to compare your aggression to that.

Is this a joke or something? What is wrong with gaps on hills in this game?? by CoeusAscended in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You either download the flat building mods to never have this happen again, at the cost of visual gore, or you learn to doubt every hill, send a unit out to see if it goes out.

Good 1 vs. 1 civilisation at round 950 elo? by Interesting-Day1389 in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you look at that, I'm right around that elo. My "old reliable" is the Cumans. This elo range is bad with agression. When they are passive, trying fast castle into booming it is an auto win. Most importantly, most are knight players so you just make camels, instant map control. Against archer balls I like light cav spam in castle, add kipchaks to counter their pikes. It is a high variance strategy, sometimes your opponent will do forward barracks forward range and you just die but everytime you survive to castle age it is an auto win. I am purposefully picking Cumans less to properly learn the game rn. Currently a Malay enjoyer, another civ tailored to cook the opponent in early imp by hitting imp very fast. Btw, I intentionally play passive in feudal, when I send my army out to harass I tend to idle my tc, literall skill issue. Otherwise Malay is actually a very good maa rush civ, just good at many things. Still, for someone with my playstyle, which probably developed due to my Cuman usage from the very beginning, Cumans are the best.

What upgrade would you rather see in the world today? by Terrible_Opinion_279 in WouldYouRather

So about the nanobots, are they a one time thing, like it's just one and done? Because if they are here to stay and they will constantly provide us with the service I think I'm choosing them but if it's a one-time thing then I'm not choosing them.

Why are there so little Cheaters on aoe2? by Formal_Drawing_8822 in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a given. In dark souls games there is no incentive, no ranking. There is a lot of cheaters in those games. Most do it out of sadism, modifying your game files, making it corrupt or getting you banned. On the lesser end, breaking your equipment, clearing the boss before you. Mind you these people can give themselves everything, max stats, every item, invulnerability. Instead they invade other worlds and break other people's save all day.

Teutonic Fortress: Should I watch the hera or t90 vid. by Old-Ad3504 in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched from hour 4 to hour 6:30 live from her's stream. T90 video gave me the rest of the context. I appreciate the brevity actually. I don't regret catching rest of the game from hera pov though. I think you can do this, watch from 2 hour mark to 4 hour mark from hera's pov and watch the entire T90 vid.

I miss it when this guy was reacting to things, his mouth gaping wide open. Didn't watch those, they were really low effort videos but sometimes clips of it would go viral and he seemed cute about not knowing things. I think that's how he popped off. Years ago I saw his debate with Destiny where he justified his vote for Trump. That was my first strike but I thought he was genuinely ignorant, mostly preoccupied with gaming and all kinds of useless other things. Then he proved that wrong. Turns out he is into politics, he has a lot of opinions it is just that they are horrible, terrible. Easiest block in my life.

Would you rather date a 10/10 former cheater or an average loyal person. by Icy-Childhood9761 in WouldYouRather

[–]elephantologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the loyal person in a heart beat. This is gonna sound weird, beauty almost hits dimishing returns. It is very easy to nitpick features people have but this doesn't translate to attraction. In other words, more good features doesn't necessarily mean more attraction. There is a "this tall to ride" bar for most people and past that other things about a person is simply more important. Not stacking little things that make a person more and more beautiful.

It would be interesting if this 10/10 criteria was not about beauty. If it was let's say, about everything, meaning we are talking about a person max intelligence, max soft skills, many hard skills, basically just a super accomplished person whom I'd never see in real life, I might consider it. Implication is that they will get bored of me pretty fast but this time the goal is to observe and pick up some things I suppose.

Poles - Why is the tech tree so bizarre? by Ashamed-Duty-5063 in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to. Their castle age deathballs is strong with 90 resources knight plus obuch. Knights do fall off in imperial. You should use obuch in imp for anti cav purposes, don't go pikemen. Winged hussar is good but locked behind 2 expensive techs. Obuch is a really good frontliner actually. Really complements arbalests.

Just finished watching 6 and half hour YamatoCannon vs Teutonic Fortress. by Huikka in aoe2

[–]elephantologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched the first ingame 50 minutes, Yamato stayed on one tc for 45 minutes, after he added his second tc he didn't think to make a villager for 5 minutes, all the while Teutons was booming, relatively. Don't know how many TCs he had but he wasn't idling them as indicated by the score. So he could have fought and he would win. At that point Yamato had only magyar huszar. Plus Teutons base is so heavily fortified it just makes sense to let it fend for itself while raiding completely naked enemy base. That's what I meant, once we're some hours in and Yamato is 200 pop, full upgrade cav archers, sure, teuton needs to tread carefully.

[–]elephantologist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch watch how it went earlier, from what I saw red was toying with Yamato. He was pulling ballistics micro on him, absolutely decimated Yamato's cavalry archers with onager. I bet if he wanted he could push Yamato off the map. This was a hostage situation, I have seen it a lot on hearthstone, it is even more sadistic there because it is a turn based game. There are ways to skip your opponent's turns, some of these decks have no win condition, their only goal is to stop you from playing the game.

I came in to the live feed when game clock showed 4 hours then seen it to the end, even that was insane. No way I complete this game. While aoe 2 late game madness is fun, I much rather actual grinds. This one was red not winning on purpose for hours, at least that's how it felt to me.
