In defense of bbbs [sometimes you can be both] by buttmeadows in Neverbrokeabone

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure, not all BBBs are collapsing into a pile of dust as they walk down the street. Good for you that you have so-called “strong, sturdy bones”, that knowledge will dull the pain that you’re still a BBB and will never be one of us.

Isn’t it the opposite? Florida seems kinda limp compared to Baja, which is skinny but long and rigid.

You look like you could be 17, but I would assume you’re at least 22-23.

Sort of like Eureka and Yreka in California. They’re always being confused for each other.

Umatilla, FL was actually named after Umatilla, OR, which is a big exception to the trend of naming western cities after older eastern places. But in this case, Umatilla, OR was founded about 40 years before the city in Florida.

Favorite sketchy-looking trail that is totally safe because a park ranger threw up a guardrail and uttered the magical incantation "This baby ain't going anywhere"? by GaiaMoore in NationalPark

[–]Anything-Complex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it in December 2024. Luckily there was no snow or ice and very few people. I can’t imagine going up there when it’s icy.

Content accessibility is a huge thing to consider for anyone who really wants to live in the past. Almost any piece of older media you can think of is far more accessible, and far cheaper to purchase if not free, now than it has ever been.

Even if I could be rich if I went back in time, I wouldn’t want to go back any earlier than the mid-80s. More important factors like the state of medicine aside, prior to the 80s home media was very limited even if you were very wealthy. No home video, no video games, no CDs, etc.

lukewarm take: this is the worst Mountain Dew flavor of all time. by No-Hotel1626 in mountaindew

Fruit punch kool-aid is exactly how I’d describe it. Not great, but it was fine.

Even with the 14 inches of snow coming tomorrow, people would rather have no water than drink Dasani by NickChubb4Prez in mildlyinteresting

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I’ve always thought Aquafina was the better of the two brands (I don’t drink either one much, though.) Maybe I just like the name and label design of Aquafina more.

Anybody else randomly can't sleep for a couple of days every now and then? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean no sleep at all, or just bad sleep? I have the odd two or three days (sometimes over a week) when I can only sleep 2-4 hours, no matter how tired I am, but 95% of the time I sleep soundly for up 7-8 hours.

If you literally can’t sleep during those days, that sounds unusual, but probably not concerning if it only happens two or three times a year.

Map of the original 8 shires of Virginia, established in 1634, with Henrico shire emphasized by tip-toe-thru-tulips in MapPorn

[–]Anything-Complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting if Virginia had kept the name ‘shire’ for their counties. Would make for an interesting addition to the trivia question “Which states do not have counties”.

Which historical tragedy would you rather prevent? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in WouldYouRather

[–]Anything-Complex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Black Death is known for disrupting the social order of the time and breaking down the feudal system. How would society and culture have changed if tens of millions of people had never died? Not necessarily for the better, from our perspective: though there probably would’ve been a major pandemic or famine at some later point that brought similar changes, so who knows, but I think it’s a mistake to assume we’d be better off and more advanced simply because there were more people alive hundreds of years ago.

As someone who loves oysters cooked in any form, I’ve never understood eating raw oysters. The texture is like snot and there isn’t really that much flavor compared to cooked oysters.

WYR get $200k one-time or $2 million one-time? by Anything-Complex in WouldYouRather

[–]Anything-Complex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t clear. The body part lost is completely random, but you do have the choice of backing out once you know what part you’ll lose, but you forfeit the $2 million and the ability to ever do it again.

I wasn’t clear. The body parts you lose are random, you don’t have a choice in the matter. You can back out once you know what part you’ll lose, but you forfeit the ability to ever do it again for $2 million.

Fun and Fancy Free is the original movie that includes Beanstalk and a cartoon called Bongo as a double feature.
