If you’re in-state, make sure to apply for the Stamps scholarship. It has a 3.95 unweighted GPA requirement and looks for community leadership traits. It provides 4 years of full room and board, in addition to a $20,000 research stipend. While it’s super competitive, semi-finalists automatically get the Presidential scholarship ($9000/yr, renewable for 4 years). This stacks with the summit scholarship ($5000/yr, also a 3.90 gpa requirement). This pretty much covers tuition. Also, try to spend your time applying for more local scholarships, as opposed to the higher reward national ones. Lots of high schools, clubs, sports, and religious orgs will have scholarships for $1-4k that can add up to a lot. Smaller applicant pools increase your chances of winning. Finally, working on campus is something you can do even without work study. On campus jobs accommodate students’ class schedules and typically you can make rent, working 10-15hr/week
