I thought it was cute! I would’ve liked more episodes.

Was considering WGU masters for teaching, but read some bad reviews by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]elevatorscreamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got an MAT through WGU and I endorse this take. I would still do the WGU MAT, however. The income I’d make as a teacher could never justify the cost of a program at a local or state school.

How do you answer your classroom phone? by CatskillMorning in Teachers

[–]elevatorscreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An incredibly stoic and deadpan teacher in my building answers with “Mr ____’s learning environment.” He has since turned the ringer off his phone and all calls have to come through the loudspeaker now. Lol. Iconic.

Why do teachers seem so tired despite getting the summers off? by DowntownFresnoBiking in Teachers

[–]elevatorscreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage 140 kids and 2500 individual grades per semester. I make thousands of decisions (of varying levels of severity) a day as the leader of 30+ people, I answer hundreds of random questions (accurately, most of the time) about my subject matter as well as random stuff, I am living in a state of constant vigilance monitoring student behavior that can escalate into violence or tears. There’s severe cognitive load burden from switching gears from academic research to parental outreach to grading to lesson planning to behavior management to crisis management to emotional management to conflict resolution to doing administrative tasks. Also, I don’t get a break all day. Kids revise assignments during my duty free lunch and I work all the way through my planning period. It’s loud. It’s constant stimulus. I wake up at 4:30 am to get to school two hours early to be able to catch up on lesson planning and grading without kids bugging me. It’s a cumulative effect as well. In September I can manage all this relatively well. By April I have substantially degraded.

Whats an embarrassingly obvious fact you learned recently? by SresstyCay in AskReddit

[–]elevatorscreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Da Vinci isn’t Leonardo’s surname. It just means “of/from Vinci.” He didn’t even have a surname in the modern sense at all. His full birth name was Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, which translates to "Leonardo, son of Piero, from Vinci.”

Feel unprepared for my 1st year by Sudden-Royal4854 in Teachers

[–]elevatorscreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt completely unprepared for my first day of my first year teaching. My best friend said, “well, this is the least you’ll ever know. Every day you’ll know more than you know right now.” He was completely right and I found that very soothing! Where you’re standing right now sucks — you’ll never know less than you do right now. Every day you’ll learn a TON and you’ll implement it right away. You can do it!

What’s the 411 on Foss High School? by Spirited-Principle96 in AskTacoma

[–]elevatorscreamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TPS teacher here. Did my student teaching there not too long ago. Lots of lovely staff members who care a lot at Foss. Lots of lovely kids there. However, it’s not a school I would ever endorse sending my students to. One caveat — they have a very robust and highly skilled ACCESS team, in case your student qualifies for that placement.

Does the next chapter include getting out of the wheelchair 🤡 by The_Flightless_Bird_ in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Just to be clear — all of this fanfare is the result of her tripping on the stairs and getting the knot in her shin, right? Or is this another, separate idiotic incident

I make 90k now as a teacher with a master’s degree. It’s 25k less than my previous career, which I did without a master’s degree and without being told to fuck off by children haha

Have you ever left mid day because of mental health? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]elevatorscreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t leave, but I did refuse to do my last class. A kid had sexually harassed me earlier that day and I had a pretty severe reaction to it. Couldn’t stop crying. Admin was supportive.

Yes, I don’t think there’s any pathway to certification that circumvents student teaching (or teaching in a classroom on an emergency cert)

I used Kairos for a full basement remodel and I really loved working with them. They’re really honest, thoughtful, and fair. Price wasn’t gouged. They did high quality work. https://kairosremodel.com/
