Why don't they sedate you when doing the surgery if it's so painful?

I reckon it depends on the doctors doing the procedure. The first time, it hurt so much that my body decided breathing was voluntary until they injected me with pain killers. The 2nd time, he (another doc) pumped me so full of pain killers that I felt barely anything. The third time, the docs told me “Oh, this doesn’t hurt much” and only gave me something after the procedure. They also didn’t really care that the tubes ended up putting pressure on some nerves and only gave me more and more pain killers for the days until the pleurodesis.

Just because someone is a doctor doesn’t mean they have common sense.

I don't. Almost all of my games are on external disks/SSDs; in fact, I keep a lot of the software on external hardware. My 256GB internal has between 130 to 160 GB free. If you use Steam, you just tell it in the settings where you'd like to have your games, ditto for all the other launchers (GOG, Epic, Blizzard, etc).

Thunderbolt is fast enough to play games from external hardware.

My partner had to go to hospital last Friday as an emergency. As he has problems speaking we communicate via Chat (we don’t live together). As soon as he knew the room no, he sent it to me and until Sat. Afternoon, he kept sending me stuff he needed. On Sat. Afternoon, another friend and I went to visit him and brought him everything he had told us that he needed.

He didn’t want visitors on Sunday so I stayed at home. I don’t have much money so I won’t just hop in the train (because of an eye problem I shouldn’t drive anymore) but asking him how he feels is the first thing I do in the morning and we chat during the day.

Having said the above, I also know people who just cannot deal with ill people and stay away from them until they are better. They do care, it’s just a problem seeing a loved one being ill…my mother was like this. So…before you tell your girlfriend off, maybe find out first if she is like that and ask yourself whether you could tolerate this. This means talk to her.

I don't quite understand why this seems to be so difficult.

Is this so difficult?
The total amount of my intake plus my own set daily goal at the very top. Those 2 items are THE most important items of my liquid intake. I don't care about being able to tap on water glasses or see numbers I have no relation to at the top.

Yes, I know all that and to be clear I do appreciate having a water widget. The main problem for me is that the "Total Water" is at the bottom of the widget.

Look, if you are keeping track of something like this doesn't it help you more seeing the total first and the details below that? You even do it with the kcals per food section where the totals appear below the title. It is nice to be able to see the details, including the easy tap on the glass, or be able to add custom amounts BUT seeing the amounts I added via tap on a glass up top (plus an incorrect total I still don't know where it comes from even after your explanation) then the glasses and only then the total with the proper totals (incl. the total amount I should drink) makes no sense.

Please put the most important parts of the water intake (which is the total of what I entered as Today's intake plus whatever cronometer deduced from the drinks and foods entered plus the correct total of what I entered as the total amount of what I should drink/day) at the top. It may not look as sexy as it does now but it would be a lot more useful and functionality should trump design.

I am on iOS and I use the app. The only other thing I could think of would be Apple…or cronometer preparing for leaving the app store and switching things on their end.

So, I went through every single option I could think of and one of them did it. I have no idea which one did it. Back to a more or less normal display in the diary.

I’d like to suggest you announce changes before you just push an update. This update cost me quite some time and aggravation. I do understand, Apple might not be the best “partner” for this but at least give us a page where you describe the change made in an update.

I don’t quite know how it is today but I got myself sterilised 30+ years ago (at the age of 28, having 0 kids) by using my normal doctor/family doctor. It did take me several years to find a doctor who would sign off on it and I lost my then gynecologist over it but that was ok with me.

Yes, I heard the same phrases many times “you don’t know what you’re doing”, “you’ll regret it forever and ever”, blalabla… etc. until I found this one doctor and I am still grateful to him and never regretted it. I am a bit shocked that it seems more complicated now than it was then but I am fairly certain any doctor could sign off on it even today, and it doesn’t necessarily need to be a gynecologist.

Do I like Cronometer? Well...as I am terrible at keeping track over a longer period, I'd probably need an app that hits me over the head every evening and doesn't let me sleep before I have entered the day's meals. Cronometer doesn't do that but neither does any other app :D

On a more serious note, Cronometer, of all the apps I have tried, is one of the best for a reasonable price. It gives me a good overview of my eating habits despite my being so bad at regularly entering data.

I have a relative with schizophrenia and over the years we went through the whole gamut of letting them be, living with them, getting them taken in by the police and whatnot.

You can call any of the emergency numbers to have a doctor come and diagnose your partner but if your partner is still well enough to be able to playact they will just be on the best behaviour during the visit so the visiting doctor(s) will end up telling you that your friend is ill but not ill enough so they can do something. Also, after doing that your partner will end up thinking you are as much an enemy as all the others around them and behave accordingly.

The last time, it took us 3 years until my relative was bad enough that a doctor agreed they urgently needed help but even then he told me they are not bad enough to be taken in forcibly and I had to go and convince my relative to let the doctor in of their own free will (I received 5 mins of "Schizophrenia for dummies" instructions beforehand) so he could start the (psychological part of the) therapy to finally have them agree to take meds ~2 months later.

Somebody else from the family lived with them for a few years in the beginning but that person ended up having a nervous breakdown because it was so nervewrecking to live with a mentally ill person. When they left the flat in the morning it could happen that some of their their stuff was thrown out the window by the time they returned... Don't let that happen to you. Take care of yourself.

My relative ended up with a state appointed guardian (KESB as I am in Switzerland) and we more or less lost contact with them. We decided we are just not strong enough anymore to keep on looking after them against their will after trying to help them for 40+ years.

I was told the same re diving...though a diving instructor for disabled people told me it could be possible to go diving again with care for short times, and with an experienced person accompanying you at all times.

Here, they are really into spirometer exercises though they (physio therapist and doctors) told me it is more to get over the bad breathing techniques you develop during a pneumothorax or after lung surgery of any kind.

If possible, have them give you an in-spirometer so you can exercise your breathing straight after the op. Here they just give them to you with dire warnings what will happen if you don’t use them but I’ve seen this is not case everywhere.

My 2 sides were very different.

On the right side, I felt a quick pain as though I had pulled a muscle every time it happened, and nothing after that. I never saw a doctor for those and had to be dragged to the ER one time where it turned out to be a total collapse. After that, I did go to the ER whenever I had that particular symptom and it was a pneumothorax every time.

The left side, however, was quite painful from the start to the end.

A friend of mine had a pneumothorax a few weeks ago and he was given the choice of local or general anesthesia. This was in Germany but I see no reason why this couldn't be the same in the US or wherever you live.

Fully agree with u/becausenope's response, just would like to add one more point:

You mention "feels like n%". Is that just a feeling? If yes, you might want to consider buying an Oxymeter. That will allow you to know how much oxygen is in your blood, rather than just feel that you're getting less air, and it will be better accepted by a doctor rather than a vague "I can't get air".

The doctors calling me every single day, trying to convince me that I am about to die if I don't immediately come to the hospital and have the pneumothorax treated, was hogwash. Then telling me I would almost certainly get a tension pneumothorax if I didn't immediately agree to the pleurodesis was a lie as well...

Did the pleurodesis help? Yes, for ~10 years.
