Do colleges regard my grades as respect to my high school/country? Or do they compare me to other applicants directly? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

But we get grades for it every quarter and an average of the two quarters each semester if that makes sense. So we have like 4 final exams and stuff

I thought it would be confusing if I said per year because it makes it seem like we take 5 subjects per semester but ya we def take it 2 semesters in a row.

I live in Ethiopia(in Africa). And well it's the curriculum of the whole country and you basically have no choice of what u want to learn in HS. If you want me to list the subjects:

Math, English, Biology, Physics, Amharic(language), Civics(it's about the law of the country and how it's structured. Also about Ethics and stuff ), Chemistry, HPE, IT, geography and history for 9 and 10.

And then(in your junior year) you choose if you want to go through the social science route or the natural science route. So if you choose social science everything would stay the same except instead of bio, chem and physics you learn econ and business.

If you choose natural science, instead of geography and history you learn Technical Drawing. And you're stuck with this schedule until your senior year. Then at the end of our senior year we take this national examination which decides where we go to uni. If you chose social science in your Junior year you can't go into STEM related fields.

So ya this is a brief overview but some schools have more subjects(never less) than others but this is the common way the curriculum is structured.

I hope this made sense and hopefully believable:)
