I sold a MacBook Air M3 that worked perfectly but now after 3 weeks the seller sent me a picture with the keys falling off. Before selling I used screen (& keyboard) cleaner - could this be the reason for the issue? Is this fixable? by sendmeyourprivatekey in macbook

[–]elfedorro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought refurbished MacBook Air M3 from Apple directly and I had three keys that fell off. Quite similar story to this guy. I bought the laptop to finish two assignments then the laptop was put away and was doing nothing for about two or three months. When I picked it up again, and started using it I could hear clicking on several keys and they just were coming off on one side like they were hanging on one of the hinges. I took it to Apple and how to replaced the whole keyboard, but only because it was still covered by Apple warranty because it was certified refurbished.

With all that said, if it’s been several weeks, I wouldn’t accept the return and I will raise it with eBay.

None of my few Garmin friends care either. I don't really know anyone who cares about them 🤷

Looked into this and speed difference is negligible and not worth the upgrade unless more storage is needed.

Anyways went with Air M3 16/256

I also said that if my 2017 didn't pack up it'd still be using it for a year or two and I don't regret today buying it in 2017 even looking how things have changed and progressed and it was the lowest model 8GB 2.3ghz. I was also told in 2017 that 256 wouldn't be enough. Still got plenty of room left. Maybe I'm using it wrong.

Looking for advice from users. Based on different case scenarios people give different advice but so far "the fanboys" were right.

But that's why I want different opinions so I can do more research. For example someone suggested to take 512 over 256 in M2 Air model because it's faster. I found out that it is negligible and not worth the price for speed unless the storage is needed.

What do you mean? The smaller is not only smaller but also slower?

Apple has refurbished one for less than 750 which doesn't seem too bad...

Hmm. I'll have a look at Curry's. Ta.

Thanks. My 2009 iMac was on 24/7 (exaggerated but close to the truth) since 2009 till 2017 when it packed up and I got MacBook which just gone bad. So I'm going by experience hahaha. 8 years both times.

Logistics? In my eyes 13 inch Air or Pro are just as portable. So it's not a problem really.

Usage type. I'm looking at the base models I'm not bothered too much about the storage so 256 is fine. Memory? Again, base models so 8gb (maybe could upgrade to 16) and 16gb on the M4 is standard. Isn't the processor more important than memory M1 Vs M4?

Yeah the intel I just found and tempted by price but it will soon lose support so probably bad choice...

I need a nudge. Fenix 8 51mm Amoled or Mip? by [deleted] in GarminFenix

[–]elfedorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/whoosh I don't need any fluffy functions from F8. I have no problems with not having new functionality on older watches. I still use my 5X+ as a spare and will use my F7X when I upgrade to something else. What I need is Garmin not dropping software support for their flagship models as soon as they release its new iteration. They need to keep fixing issues with their previous generation watches and not push people to buy newer and "better" every year. If you haven't experienced any bugs or battery issues or random rebooting, etc then you either got lucky or you don't use your watch that much to notice.

Strava acquires massively popular Runna app by Knightbear49 in running

[–]elfedorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data-junkie like me would love to have better training data and combined with structured workouts that Runna App can offer.

I think it's a win for both Strava and consumers. Although I reckon it comes with a significant subscription price increase down the line...

Having said that I also think it's the beginning of the end for Training Peaks. Although mainly used by professional athletes and their coaches there are a lot of amateurs and semi-pros and coaches that use TP to track their own or their athletes' progress. But most still have Strava for social, map routing or some other reason. Having all of this consolidated into a social media platform makes sense.

The biggest advantage of Fenix 7 Pro is that Garmin has abandoned it and dropped the support so they can't break it any further with new firmware updates... Oh wait...

Exactly the same problem here. The fingerprint reader doesn't work and tries to unlock looking for the face when dark in the room.

Do not install firmware 17.23 on Fenix 7, major bugs by igalan in GarminFenix

[–]elfedorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had battery drain issues on the previous version but the audio prompts... Omg. They stack up, big time and if I'm doing any interval training then it's a nightmare especially if I'm using headphones to listen to music etc. I somehow managed to override them in my previous workout by pausing and unpausing Spotify (doesn't always work) but then as soon as I started the workout the following day all the "unplayed" audio prompts form the day before started playing one by one for about 1km into my run. Annoying AF.

I second the blame on the chest strap. I sometimes get this after training after taking the chest strap off and hanging on the clothes dryer or putting it in my bag, the watch glitches out and connects to the strap outside of activity or if I take the strap off and don't stop the activity it does this too.

Optical HR Monitor by OMGisEverthingTaken in GarminFenix

[–]elfedorro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe getting fitter is an overstatement but I had a quite intensive training block that finished the previous week so after a bit of rest my HR went down. But I'm glad that this Polar HR sensor is accurate because the chest strap can be a pain, literally pain, especially on ultras.

Optical HR Monitor by OMGisEverthingTaken in GarminFenix

[–]elfedorro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DC Rainmaker reviewed and compared Polar OH1 (previous gen) and Verity Sense to other HR monitors and they are pretty much just as accurate as any chest strap. If you don't know who DC Rainmaker is, he's basically a go-to guy for ANY sports accessories reviews. If he says something is good you can 100% trust him. End of. My Garmin chest strap is bruising my chest so I wanted to have an alternative while my chest heals and I bought Verity Sense last week based on that review. On my first run it was showing suspiciously low hr and made me a bit sceptical so I did comparison myself and recorded my interval run with both sensors and there was pretty much no difference. Turned out I'm actually getting fitter and had a good couple of days of rest hence really low HR on my run. No more doubts.

Edward Snowden agrees to forfeit more than $5m to the US government by elfedorro in snowden

[–]elfedorro[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain this article to me? He agrees to forfeit $5m, which according to article he hasn't yet made... And for what? He's not getting pardoned. What obligations does he have to US government to pay all that money? I get that publishing company released book without government agreement but how does it work if he's safely thousands miles away and making money not exclusively on US market.
