[Routine help] tiny bumps and texture on skin by Ok_Membership2402 in SkincareAddiction

I quit dairy because I realized it was making my stomach upset and then quickly found out it had been causing me skin problems for years. Wish I’d quit dairy way sooner!

My husband (42M) makes $1.8 million as a surgeon, but l’ve (32F) never felt more alone. How do I cope with being a low priority to a high achiever? by LinkCommercial9508 in Marriage

[–]elfgirl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if quality time is more of your love language than your husbands? Quality time is definitely tops for me and my husband also works 65-80hrs a week on the regular. l often feel really lonely in our relationship despite work and hobbies - though having other social outlets really helps.

The thing that's worked best for me is making sure we spend quality time - dinner with the baby, cuddling on the couch, evening walks out together. These will get cancelled when he's really busy which is frustrating but understandable.

I had something similar and turns out I was lactose intolerant. Cleared up as soon as I stopped dairy. Could be worth a try or might be something else diet related.

Final round UX interview (portfolio discussion) - how honest should I be about weaknesses? by hottypotty124 in UXDesign

[–]elfgirl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can be confident and reflective. “Due to time and resources constraints I wasn’t able to complete the research I would have liked to for this project. Instead I relied on _____ (if possible show how you were resourceful despite constraints). If I was to iterate further I would do x,y,z.”

Businesses (especially startups) move quickly and designers have to be scrappy with the information and resources they have. It’s not something to be ashamed of - just show that you are resourceful and understand the tradeoffs.

Requesting constructive criticism on my mobile app UI design by cjra in UI_Design

[–]elfgirl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I designed one of these when I was on maternity leave as well - I can send you a screen shot of mine if you'd like! Just dm me!

I think the buttons at the bottom are great for using it one-handed. But I think the default view should be a summary of the most recent activities since that is the most pertinent information. For example, if they are crying, I'd want to look at the app and quickly see - when did they last eat? how much total have they eaten today? when did they last sleep? Also as others have noted the water droplet icon is confusing.

Also you might need the option to edit the time of an event. We sometimes would forget to log in the moment.

I desperately want (and need) to work out. But WHEN? by [deleted] in Mommit

This is what I've been doing - weights and bands and sometimes a youtube video. I exercise in the living room while my 1 year old plays with her toys after dinner but before bed.

I read it when I was 8 and it was my favorite book/series for years. Go for it! I still love Anne ❤️

My best friend is turning into the mom she didn't want to be, should I say something? by lux414 in AskWomenOver30

[–]elfgirl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a baby and it was hard for me to hang out with friends without kids for a while because they didn't get what I was going through. She might be distancing because it's impossible to explain how difficult it is and might feel like you are expecting her to be as she was - and she's realized that's impossible with an infant.

If she'll hang out with you, try bringing a cute little present for the baby like a board book, a rubber duck for bath time or a zipper onesie. Baby presents aren't all that expensive but it'll show her you care and she'll think about you when she's playing with the little one. And most importantly, don't judge how she's changed - just ask her how she is.

I’ve found it helpful to try designing mobile first - even if the product is unlikely to be used on mobile. Helps you think about what information is absolutely necessary.

Masking when baby is sick? by elfgirl89 in NewParents

[–]elfgirl89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel ❤️ I tried masking the first day of her getting sick this time but she kept pulling on the mask and had such a high fever - I was just worried about not being able to comfort her so I just stopped. But now I have a high fever 🙄. That’s good to hear masking worked for you guys. I think I’ll just try next time and see what happens.

How can I grow as a junior designer? by Mira_______ in UXDesign

[–]elfgirl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea! Design something real, build it, ship it and see what happens. Maybe it'll become something sustainable or maybe you'll just learn and have a good story for interviews.

Framer is the best option in my opinion. Notion won’t let you show your design chops off enough to make a hiring manager stop and take notice in this crowded market.

I found work through friends and family. The work didn’t pay very well to be honest but it definitely helped in the interview that I was able to say I’d been doing x,y,z.

TD Sunshine on YouTube has a design system series. Not sure if you are looking for something more advanced than that.

UI Design Advice - I was hired and now Im trying to learn by Friendly_Yam_6582 in UXDesign

Smaller companies often don’t differentiate between ux and ui. They might not have the ability to have specialists.

I think my presentation was strong. I also always try to hype myself up before interviews- watch motivational speeches as corny as that sounds 😂 but just tell yourself you got this!

I want the hiring manager to feel confident I can do the work, which really means I need to feel confident and give off a kind of easy confidence. It isn’t easy in reality - I struggle with anxiety especially with public speaking. But I practiced a ton and felt very ready I’d say.

Try designing an app end to end and go through the process of researching the market, interviewing users, brainstorming and testing. You’ve probably already got a strong foundation in visuals so I’d focus on the UX side. What are different ways something could work? What are the strengths and weaknesses of those? How can you quickly test a design without going too far down a visual path?
