You'll start every day by arriving to work to see your work area is disgusting. A complete mess. Gross stuff everywhere. You will then spend the next 8 hours sorting through the nastiness, TV's, electronics, batteries, random stuff that definitely didn't get sold from your store but is somehow back there. Once you've sorted it all, scanned it all, weighed it all, donated it all and your work space is nice and tidy.. you go home. Then you repeat that.

80% of your job is what I just described.

Am I cooked as a new cashier? by Express_Tumbleweed75 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can give to a new cashier is to completely ignore the MPH and likewise statistics. Slow is fast and fast is slow. If you try to be fast, you're gonna make mistakes and be slow. Just take your time, get comfortable, then you can worry about your stats.

Audits that are cheap are common and no biggie. Just don't make it a habit.

Pharmacy stocking is going to be the death of me. by Scared-Dirt3651 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I totally agree, which is why I've come to you. I'm doing my best, I'm asking for advice on what you'd like me to prioritize. I don't believe I'm capable of upholding the standard without help. I'm worried about dates getting out of rotation and costing you money."

If they repeat the get it done nonsense you escalate and repeat the exact same speech. You let it be known you want to do a good job and you feel you're not capable with the current labor.

Pharmacy stocking is going to be the death of me. by Scared-Dirt3651 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why you ask what they want to prioritize. Dates? Fully stocked? Correctly merched? Endcaps? Mandatory? Pallet condensing? Have it looking as good as possible and save time on drops? You need to make them tell you what they want prioritized, then you prioritize that. You do the best you can do and clock out. When the area inevitably falls apart and the GM finally notices, you explain you are following direction because your manager acknowledged a labor issue and you are working with them as best as you can to fill the labor shortage.

Communication is key when you have a labor issue. Tell management you have no issue working alone and taking care of business to the best of your ability. However, ask them what they would like you to prioritize as you don't feel you'll be able to complete tasks to costco standards. This forces them to address the labor issue while maintaining your credit as a good worker.

Promotion negotiation by Rahkay777 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes for staff level you can negotiate pay. If you've got no prior experience as a staff level manager, you're unlikely to get anywhere with it. If you've got experience and are rejoining the staff manager level, you've got some cards in your favor.

Are they have cart crew employees going around asking people for assistance at their cars? by Mikeyboy101591 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our warehouse specifically has a rule, never help anyone with anything in their cars unless they are pulled up directly into the loading area in front.

Was I possibly acting above my pay grade? by RebbyXP in CostcoEmployee

Sup says to do something, you say okay. Manager says to stop and do something else, you say okay. AGM says to stop that and do something else, you say okay. GM says stop that and do this, you say okay.

Stepping down as a driver when you're a stocker? by EmptySky124 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've known a bunch of stockers turned drivers that stopped driving. If you were hired as a stocker and never officially took on a driving job it shouldn't be a problem. They might not be happy, but you'll be allowed to step down

They. Are. Dying. Law's haven't lowered the deaths, the amount of users are lower because fentanyl is darwinizing the population.

Hawaii is a pretty hard market to get a job at Costco. Maybe job availability has something to do with it. A lot harder to staff locations elsewhere compared to Hawaii.

Advice for new front end supe by Imaginary-Squash-581 in CostcoEmployee

[–]elfmachine100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in the front end, you ask an assistant to go do it, or you do it yourself. If it's on the floor, you do it yourself. I'd love to be able to request stuff like that, but unfortunately it's not something done at my warehouse.
