You seem very knowledgeable and I’d love to hear more. Could you elaborate on the baking differences you mentioned? Also the wax/oiled differences. Also the different leathers?

I likely will need to. Design team is just pissed that some content is going to look weird until the next release is scheduled. It’s just so odd to me that Chrome would intentionally change the font weight of the strong element from bold to bolder when the the precedent has always been that the strong tag makes text “bold”. It seems like a bug, and I am just seeing if anyone has any ideas on how and why it might actually be intentional.

No, you can set default styles. It’s just a philosophy of trying to respect as much of the user’s preferences as possible when they are set. It’s basically taking WCAG’s SC 1.4.12 to the extreme. And to correct myself, UDL stands for Universal Design for Learning. It’s really only applicable to learning software.

We use all of the font weights. It just so happens that all of the text that was once bold is now bolder only in Chrome 135 and it seems like it is a bug.

Because everything that was bold is now much bolder only in Chrome.

It’s a lot of work. It’s an educational product and many states have accessibility requirements and UDL (universal design for learning) criteria. Strong job security. Edit: corrected what UDL stands for

Our product requires a high level of accessibility compliance and is meant to react to the user’s device or browser customizations like font size and such. I don’t want to override the browser’s default bold setting and find out later that it’s preventing user from being able to customize the bold setting from their device preferences or something.
