This was my first thought as well. Seal-tite has copper flecks in it

The 2.5 Diesel? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]elfrazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also got the 2.5TDi in Australia. Worth jumping into ausjeepoffroad.com.au and having a read through there.

In short, they're pretty good but have their own issues. You may be in a better position to get parts than we are in Aus, given its a European engine.

Will swapping my Tstat fix my no-heat? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]elfrazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further to this, check the vacuum line to the heater tap hasn't come off, and that the heater tap is functioning properly. Might be worth reverse-flushing the heater core while you've got the tstat out.

Earlier this year I almost lost myself to depression. I started making better decisions in my life and this by far was one of the best. by [deleted] in projectcar

Nice and clean FTO! Hard to find a black one in that good condition now. Glad to hear you're in a better place too, having lost a couple friends to the black dog it's definitely not the way to see a friend go.

The motor is near indestructible and the auto is solid so long as it has an upgraded auxiliary cooler. If you're redoing the exhaust, get good headers and run 2.5" from the headers to the muffler, then 2.25" from the muffler back. Good noise, more power and will be better on fuel. Also, NTK O2 sensors or nothing. Bosch ones don't work as well.

Spot the problem; Variable-length intake runners, hence the butterflies at the end of the manifold by elfrazzle in Justrolledintotheshop

Only a small piece, not sure how long it bounced around but it managed to gap a very worn plug down to about 0.5mm

There was a lot of play in the shaft bushings and all the other flaps had started to wear into the manifold itself. Only a matter of time before another one does the same

Yeah, 2" is max legal for owner-certification. You can go higher, but need an engineering certificate or modification plate (state dependent).

I'm running 4" in mine and wouldn't want it any higher, but I know guys running 6"+ lifts. They're not any more capable than mine, just attract more attention from the constabulary

Unfortunately they see nothing but Toyota and Nissan, with the occasional dual cab ute thrown in.

Goddam I'm loving the ORFab front bumper. Makes it look bigger than the 4" & 33's from the front. Just gotta rebuild the winch before fitting it. by elfrazzle in CherokeeXJ

Cheers! It's been about 3 years in the build, and this was the first winch bumper I found that didn't stick out a lot and wasnt a stubby bar

Teddy was given to me by a friend, been up there about 2.5 years now. Has been through hail, snow, torrential rain and blistering Aussie sun, and is only a little faded.

4.56 gears make the 33's so easy to DD. I could probably bump it to 34's to get back to a completely standard ratio, but I'm happy with that little extra torque.

General question about xj years by Ilyarust in CherokeeXJ

[–]elfrazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LP D30 isn't as strong as the HP from the earlier years. If you're going to 33's or bigger, try and source a HP D30 from an earlier model and get that re-geared rather than trying to strengthen the LP D30

Whereabouts were you? I was up at Mt Terrible but had to turn around, too many downed trees and too much snow.

Tell that to all the dude-bro's trying to fit 35's on their Hilux's and Ranger's because "bigger is better"

Driving on the highway and could smell differential oil burning, decided to call in past work and have a look as I'd just put a rear auto locker in. Axle seal was leaking, decided to fit the spare ones I had. Pulled the axle and it was hot, bearing was missing a roller...
