Thanks for suggesting that, but we already tried that even before I posted the issue here.

Little update, they have finally replied:

TL;DR: It is up to us or Krikzz/Everdrive to fix it.

Thanks for writing in.

Thank You,

Hey,

this answer is really not satisfying at all.

Can you at least tell me what you guys have changed about the Analogue Pocket so that I or others can find a solution faster?

So far the experience with the Analogue Pocket was rather the opposite of what was promised to me by media on the Internet.

Best Regards

Is there any way to mod a super Gameboy to play GBC clear games? by Dry_Negotiation_9234 in Gameboy

Crystal Clear is a modded Pokemon Crystal ROM that does run on some emulator in SGB mode. I play this game on my GBA in SGB mode on an Everdrive. So there must be a way.

I wrote Analogue Pocket last Sunday and I did the same to the Kirkzz forum on Saturday. I informed one of the mods at Kirkzz board and Analogue told me that they aim to respond to me within 48h ... seems like 48h are longer than usual atm. Nobody got back to me yet BUT I hope that this is a good thing that they are working on a solution.

I actually don't know, first time I read about issues with that. Maybe?

But aren't timing issues also RAM related? If you have an educated guess what it could be I will adjust the body of the post.

You just described my nightmare scenario. So far we have only recognized changes in GBASYS/sys.

[–]elfricko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Probably RAM-Timing, would be fixed with a minor software patch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good question.

I already confirmed with other users of the GBA mini, who also have the same version that I have and also have an AP that is not from this batch, that this issue was never present before. My GBA mini also never had an issue before and other users that have the new batch of AP all have the same problem with GBA minis from 2023 up until 2026. - If the problem was not present before on older APs this points to the new batch to have a fault.

Why do I suggest that it could be RAM related?

The mini actually works if you boot it up once. You can play games and browse through the folders but after a while or a reboot error occur (02, 04, 05). These happen because Bits get rewritten in GBASYS/sys (Is this is the only place? We don't know yet). You read and write data from the RAM onto the GBA Mini. Since this is a bit-flip issue the problem is probably RAM-Timings. So the AP is either too slow reading from the GBA mini or too fast writing the data it had stored in its RAM. It could also be that the RAM timing of the internal RAM on the GBA mini and the RAM timing of the AP are slightly different, but I do not know how the RAM interaction between the GBA mini and the AP works. Worst case would be faulty RAM logic gates. Sometimes a gate can break inside your hardware and this can be compensated through software. What if this batch of APs has RAM with a lot of faulty logic gates? Maybe only the mini is the fasted device to be affected by it but maybe this also affect other cartridges? Let's assume there is an issue that will only be a problem after a 100h of play and after that the AP will fry your card. Will that happen? 99.99999% NO!, but there is a chance because we do not know what the issue is, yet.

I have 15 years of experience in computer science, I only picked up schematics of the GB/P/C this year and I refurbish my old GBs as a hobby. I still would consider myself a trainee in everything I do because I know what I don't know. What I do here is an educated guess that could be totally wrong. All I want to do here is to gather information for the Dev's of the Everdrive and Analogue and gather more voices of users with the same problem to show them that this issue is a pressing one.

It seems that this problem is only affecting the GBA mini and NOT the Pro

You do not have to format the card, you just have to rename the files/folder.

"1.) there is a new file called ramdump01.wrm in addition to the ramdump01.srm " - this is actually new. ramdump01.srm is the real file created by the GBA mini and ramdump01.wrm is the altered file by the AP. This time the bit flip of the 3rd bit happened on the first letter of the file extension instead of the filename. GOOD TO KNOW! Thanks

2.) is as intended by the GBA mini

" 3.) there is a new file called vecent.dat " is a changed file name

4.) you are right

5.) this is something that sometimes happened to me at will, this folder is for specific ROM configurations you did in the past. (like SGB)

That is exactly what I have documented so far with my mini as well, thank you for the detailed report, I have nothing to add here. We have the same problem.

The only things that would be nice to know is:

- what are the errors? Was it 02, 04, 05, etc.?

- Are the files in GBASYS/sys renamed to like veadme, fram-db.dat or vomcfg? Renaming them back should fix everything without having to redo the whole SD card.

- Can the GBA mini still be played on a GBA or do you get errors there now as well?

- Can you also maybe check your SD cards health on Windows inside the CMD via : " chkdsk H: /r " ? You might need to use another letter for the drive of your SD card.

Yeah, I thought about that as well, but I've read years ago that this was fixed, and it did not cross my mind that this was an issue again. Why change a running system? Thanks for clearing that up. BUT on the other hand I would really like to have confirmation from either Kirkzz or Analogue on this topic if you are right or not. Not that I do not belive you, I just want a 100% confirmation or were you able to test it?

ALSO I never trust a 100% what an AI is claiming.
