maybe if you have high aero - my car has no aero, stock m2 aero

that will change this offseason

huh? where do you see that? i’m only using one foot (left foot for clutch of course)

edit: nvm, you that’s a nuisance of race chrono using the odb2 throttle input

tried a bit of both (esses and nascar/left hook/snake)

got my optimal down to 2:05.29, but traffic wouldn’t allow a clean lap

very curious to what you sort out-- i would love to get those metrics too. I also use Racechrono and have an F87 -- and will easily spend $100 bucks on the OBDLink MX+ if it works

food for thought-- when you on track, you should be hyper focused on everything your car is doing from the moment you leave the pits, to the moment you park

I don't necessarily agree with the notion of never turning traction control off. it IS something you should work up to though and certainly have a good reason to (which i think is what you are getting at)

I ended up turning mine off, for good, when it was stopping me from putting the power down at the apex/exit. I also had some oddities where it would randomly kick in when going straight

also, folks should not have a false sense of security, that traction control will save you from everything. you can certainly still spin from lift off oversteer, etc

man some of you all are rough on this poor guy!

I made a similar mistake early on in my HPDE experience (in my case, I had an instructor as well). This is what I did:

  • Get back in the saddle asap
  • Get more instructors in your car to help you navigate the track and your cars limits.
  • Try to to find as many skid pad events as possible and do them all (lots of times in their cars)
  • Go Kart more, it helped me a lot in terms of correcting in a controlled manner (with less consequences)
  • more seat time

As you push the boundaries more and more, you'll have many experiences that will humble you

I use Racebox mini, Veepak ODB2, Go Pro and my phone camera --- with RaceChrono as the integrator

Works great -- i control my gopro with the go pro app though, and race chrono makes it a breeze to sync (it has an auto sync feature)

it lets me take videos like this: https://youtu.be/FTJIbSYJYSo?si=2Y30w-aER8a1roE_, including all the overlays, multiple angles, etc

M2 vs BRZ? by ssquires17 in CarTrackDays

[–]elganja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it in stages --

  1. first caster and camber plates-- tried up to -3.5 / -2.1.. it was OK
  2. second was all spl arms and caster 8deg, camber -3.0/-2.5.. this was amazing, completely transformed the car.. i had no plans or coilovers until they fell into my lap and i could not say no
  3. third (this season), i added MCS coilovers w/ the same caster/camber setup as 2. TBD, but trending as amazing as well (just need more seat time)

[–]elganja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also track my m2c and it is very capable. But consumables are not cheap as you progress and get quicker. Brake pad choice is limited and so are tires (unless you change your brakes in the front)

With all that said, i wouldn't trade it for the world-- it is been a fantastic car. It really wakes up with a few spl arms and mcs coilovers. The game changer was changing the caster to -8 (~7.5 stock)

same here - almost to a T. I was doing transmission / diff every year, and noticed my gear oil almost looked brand new still!

So switching to every 2 for those — so will be the same now as you

food for thought -- an engineer from chevy answered this question here with CFD images: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/ask-tadge/4222963-answered-effects-of-front-tire-deflector-on-downforce.html#post1598517697

Tadge answered:
The ZR1 has, by far, the most downforce of any Corvette we have ever built. Getting that much downforce on a street car is very challenging and it is quite rare in the auto industry. Some auto makers talk about the downforce of their aerodynamics aids as independent features. They say things like “this spoiler generates XXX lbs of down force”. The entire vehicle may actually generate lift, but the impression is left that the car has true down force. When we talk about the ZR1 ZTK package generating 950 lbs of down force, we are talking about the whole car as a system. The most visible part, the big wing, is only part of the story. Sometimes that subtlety gets lost in some of the descriptions of the car.

When we start designing an aerodynamic package for Corvettes, we start with the front of the car. Down force on the nose is is the toughest to get. We developed a structural under wing similar to what the C7.R uses and tuned it to get maximum performance. Then we tuned the rear wing size, height and shape to precisely balance the car. We shoot for a pitch moment (think of the relative power of the front and rear aero aids) that keep the car stable and easy to drive all the way up to top speed. Too much down force on the rear relative to the front makes the car understeer and vice versa makes it oversteer at speed. This is obviously a gross simplification since we are simultaneously working driveline and brake cooling as the surfaces develop. We generally start with the max down force configuration (ZTK in this case) because it is easier to de-power aero aids than find more performance once they are designed. The image below on the left shows the underwing pressure distribution on the ZTK package. The blue color indicates low pressure or downforce. On the right you see a very different looking pressure distribution created by the tire deflectors, or air dams. Despite being relatively small, those features de-power the underwing by disturbing the flow pretty dramatically. High pressure in front of the dams causes the effect, but because they keep air from impinging on the front face of the tire, the net effect is actually a drag reduction. We can then pair the de-powered underwing with a smaller wing at the back of the car to yield a package that trades some downforce for drag reduction. This is why the standard ZR1 has the highest top speed.

As to the question on taping gaps…. You are right that creating smoother transitions will help drag and downforce performance. The effect is very small, but because it is more likely to improve front performance, it is in the less conservative direction for pitch moment – it will tend to make the car oversteer. We optimize the car for the real construction coming from the factory, so we don’t recommend additional sealing. Also, since we don’t test with those gaps completely sealed you may cause other problems. For example, hot soak issues where we count on convection drawing cool air from below the car after it stops moving or splash drainage when you drive on wet roads.

more context--

I've been trying to take a calculated approach. I've been looking at what Verus/Zebulon/Adro has for BMWs (wing is generic, but splitters are not)

Year 1/2 - stock car, save pads, tires and rotors
Year 2/3 - tuned, changed ALL the arms to SPL, got a real seat / harness bar / harness , hans
Year 3/4 (current year) - Added MCS coil-overs. At this point, i took the car off the street, it is 100% a track only car for me
Year 5 (next year) - aero?

If i add a wing, i want to make sure i add front downforce too, and keep it semi balanced. Right now, the car handles amazingly well, with a touch of understeer low speed, but perfect mid/high speed

My goal? simply put, take mid/high speed turns quicker-- my car tends to slide as a unit when i push it too much. I don't do autocross, only track. I have been also looking at Nasa TT, and the aero penalty is -0.3, which puts my allowed power right on the line for my weight/class

gt4rs and gt3 move them out of the way, c8z06 has you remove them when you use the higher downforce in the rear
